Sheriff Grizzly by Adam Carter

Overview: Sheriff Grizzly of Grizzleton (population 36), enjoys the simple life; and life tucked away in the desert cannot be simpler. Then strangers come, intent on peddling their counterfeit coins through his town, and the quiet life becomes plagued with problems. When young Doc Rum Tinkly is kidnapped by the outlaw coin peddlers, the sheriff and his deputy, Phineas Rake, ride out to rescue her. There they find the outlaw gang boss, Dirty Salvatore, and discover there is far more to his plans than just forging money.
With his deputy going gooey over Doc Tinkly, Bear (being Sheriff Grizzly’s actual name) falls in with Dirty Salvatore’s primary assassin, Emerald Heist, whose husband was mauled to death by a grizzly bear, and who for some reason associates that bear with Bear.
As things get worse, Grizzleton is beset by a British invasion; a group of bally chums who are determined to bring the civility of cricket to the Wild West. It is not long before Bear comes to the realisation that these Brits have come for a shoot-out; and that everyone seems to be baying for his blood.
All the while, Bear wonders why these strangers seem to think he’s anything but an ordinary man. A five-foot bundle of fur, fangs and feral fierceness, Bear can’t understand why people seem to think he’s a grizzly bear. But then, that’s foreigners for you.
