Once there was a Central Europe: Selected short stories and other writings by Miklós Mészöly, Albert Tezla (Translator/Introduction)
Requirements: .PDF reader, 7.3 MB
Overview: Miklós Mészöly (b. 1921) is a novelist, short story writer and essayist. Barred by Stalinist officiadom from publishing in 1948, he re-entered the Hungarian literary scene in 1957 with the publication of Dark Signs, a collection of short stories. Since then, he has published a number of significant works which made him well known for his "small", everyday stories presented in an almost minimalist style, but laden with philosophical implication and a distinctly Central-European worldview. His themes of remembrance, forgiveness, permanence and death have won him a large and devoted readership.
