She’s forty, and her husband Marc is forty-eight. Their eldest child is fifteen, the triplets are fourteen, and the twins are thirteen. Trying to deal with six teenagers by herself is becoming more than she can manage. Especially troublesome, is her daughter Christina, who is boy-crazy, rebellious, beautiful, and scariest of all, smart.
Traci receives an anonymous note saying her husband is cheating. She doesn’t believe he’s the cheating kind. But when she calls him at 6:30 one morning and a woman answers his phone and says he’s in the shower, the seeds of doubt take root.
When Traci receives pictures of Marc and a woman, in bed she does the unimaginable; she moves from California’s central coast to New York City, enrolling her wayward daughter in a private girls school. Now, she feels, Marc will have to come home to care for his five remaining children. However, the bid to save her faltering family has dire consequences.
Marc Hamilton opposes Traci’s move to New York but gives in for the short term, confident he can persuade her to come back home. But health issues, misunderstandings, betrayal, sexual abuse, and even terrorism, lead to the family’s demise.
Other lives and loves intersect with both Marc and Traci, leading them further and further from a possible reconciliation. But despite all, they continue to care for each other. The children wonder if their family is forever lost, or if it can be put back together better, and stronger than ever.
