Viking Invasion by Alain Erikson
Requirements: .ePUB reader, 485kb
Overview: In the year AD875, only 3 years after the young Harald had come to the throne, following the assasination of his father, he had united Norway and now controlled all the islands in the north Atlantic, bar the Bretannic Isles.
These Bretannic Isles were suffering under brutal oppression by their own rulers and the vast majority of the people were living in abject poverty, if not slavery. The people are in no fit state to fight off a highly trained Viking invasion, but this is what Harald is now planning.
The story begins in the north of what we now call Scotland, and we follow how Harald frees the people from their tyrannical rulers. The story follows the sad story of a number of peasants from Banff who are taken into slavery. We follow the story to Aberdeen, Strathbogie, Kildrummy, The Black Isle, Skye, the Clyde estuary, the Forth Valley and the Great Glen.
The story also shows a softer side to the Norsemen than is commonly acknowledged and shows how the women of Scotland have strength to match any Viking.
