01 The Rebel

When Tawosret becomes the second Great Royal Wife of the newly crowned Pharaoh, Seti, she doesn’t look forward joyfully to a life by the side of her much older husband. Unaccustomed to the ways of the royal court, she initially struggles to meet the expectations that come with her elevated status and to find her place in a family that soon turns out to be far from perfect.
Just how deep the rift between the factions is becomes clear when an uprising on an unprecedented scale shakes the very foundations of Seti’s rule. The insurgents are headed by no other than his own son, Amunmesse. Having proclaimed himself king, Amunmesse leads an impressive army from Nubia northwards in a steady, unstoppable advance. It takes him only a few months to bring the better part of the country under his complete control.
Seti, whose own influence is henceforth restricted to the delta and a small part of the adjacent river valley, strictly refuses to acknowledge Amunmesse as rightful king and co-regent. On the reverse, when the adversaries don’t ignore one another, they fight each other with every means possible.
Before long, the devastating effects of the ongoing struggle make themselves felt. Tawosret soon realises that far more is at stake than meets the eye, but what that might be eludes her. It is only with the help of an unlikely ally that the truth finally unravels, and when it does, Tawosret’s already faltering loyalty to her husband suffers a serious blow. But worse is yet to come…
02 The Regent

While Seti sets out to celebrate his triumph, Tawosret struggles to suppress her budding feelings for Bay. This gets even more difficult when she finds out that they are reciprocated. With Seti standing between them, the secret lovers have to bide their time. Finally, the path to their much longed-for happiness becomes clear, and together they rule the Two Lands on behalf of young Siptah, who has succeeded his grandfather on the throne.
However, the nature of their relationship is a thorn in the side of many a great one at court, as is the growing extent of Bay’s power and influence. The arising tensions threaten to undermine Siptah’s already shaky position more than once. On a domestic level, all is not perfect bliss, either. In particular, Tawosret finds it increasingly hard to cope with her as yet unfulfilled desire for another child. But her emotional turmoil pales into insignificance when a storm is brewing that is bound to plunge the Two Lands into chaos yet again.
03 The She-Pharaoh

Tawosret has barely time to get over the most recent blow of fate before Siptah confronts her with a number of high-handed demands. Choosing what she believes to be the lesser of two evils, she complies, albeit grudgingly.
Tawosret soon realises that ruling alongside Siptah no longer suits her and sets out to smooth the way for her ultimate goal with a cunning she did not know she possessed. In a daring move, she has herself crowned sole king of the Two Lands following Siptah's untimely demise. However, it is not granted Tawosret to enjoy the fruits of her labours for long, because General Sethnakht, a seasoned veteran and zealous advocate of the proper cosmic order, has different ideas..
