The Breaking Point Killing and Other True Cases of Murder and Malice: A West Virginia Forensic Psychologist Remembers by W. Joseph Wyatt
Requirements: .ePUB Reader | 1 MB
Overview: The Breaking Point Killing is a forensic psychology casebook in which Dr. W. Joseph Wyatt presents in-depth descriptions of the fascinating cases on which he worked during his more than thirty years in the field. Dr. Wyatt describes how the court system deals with psychological issues, the thinking and approaches of attorneys and judges as well as how juries render sometimes surprising decisions.
The cases include a Fairmont, West Virginia quadruple murder, a Lincoln County murder of a bully by the man he had tormented for years (the title case) and the case of a Huntington woman who killed her abusive boyfriend - a case in which Wyatt's findings and testimony aided defense lawyers in opening the door to the battered woman syndrome defense in West Virginia.
Other cases include a disastrous prosecution of a man falsely accused of child sexual abuse, the bludgeoning death of a man by his schizophrenic stepson, a Princeton, West Virginia man driven to the psychotic murder of his lover after falling for an African inheritance scam and more, eleven cases in all. There are two general chapters that describe the field of forensic psychology, as well.
Cabell County chief of Public Defender services Robert Wilkinson said Wyatt's book, "...offers an authentic, close-up view of intriguing cases wherein the art and science of forensic psychology is brought to bear...The book is evocative, educational and even inspiring."
The Breaking Point Killing is 240 pages, softbound, and includes six pages of photos of crime scenes and the individuals involved in the cases.
Genre: Non Fiction True Crime
