Review: A harrowing escape from evil vampire Diavolo leads Catarina to werewolf Adolfo, who becomes her friend and protector when he senses something special in her. They keep moving to stay ahead of Diavolo and his minions planning to make their way to the new council for sanctuary when Diavolo catches up with them.
A heart-breaking event forces Adolfo to send Cat on ahead to meet the new council, when she arrives she is exhausted and at breaking point; Alpha werewolf Quinn sends his enforcer Tripp to run security checks on Cat before she can approach the council and the chosen. Tripp discovers Cat is his mate, human, traumatised and in desperate need of help. No sooner as Cat’s history is revealed to the council they discover a clan of vampires from Italy has contacted them about forming an alliance and is their way to Miliken.
An old enemy of the new council is back and has now joined been by Diavolo trying to wreak havoc on the pack and thwart the new prophecy when it is revealed. Centred around Cat, Tripp and vampire prince Orfeo foretelling that thevampires would one day be able to walk in the sun.
In true Denver Pack tradition when there is trouble family arrives to help, provide support and cause mayhem.
After reading the previous series The Denver Pack which had me hooked from the first book, I had to read this and I wasn’t disappointed. From the harrowing escape from the vampire Diavolo to the end of the book I didn’t move, I had to keep reading to see what was going to happen next.
The first series originated with a prophecy which stated a new council would be formed by 13 members called the chosen, if just one member was lost the prophecy would be broken.
The chosen are back with a new prophecy that will force Cat to struggle with a very difficult choice.
And help comes from an unexpected direction.
Jana Leigh paints a vivid picture with her words about the members of the pack, their families and relationships providing insight to their lives and continues to build upon a wonderful series. The mythical town of Miliken expands with new magical creatures and Cami’s obsession with meeting each new addition is well known along with her empathy
Blaine leaned over and shook his mates awake; they would have shared his dream. Kira sat up and smiled at him . “Yep, Cami is gonna freak.”
Cat’s trauma, as the story unfolds is met with unity from the council and their families, they each offer their support with first Tripp’s mother turning up to help her son and Cat, the Orfeo’s parent arrive with the same goal and provide biscotti from her hand bag.
She then followed Cami into the Pack house, a trail of men and women following behind carrying bags and boxes. “Now, you tell me woman to woman, this young girl, Caterina , she is well? She makes my Orfeo happy and sad at the same time. Young people! They must live their lives; it’s hard for a mother not to interfere. Oh well, everything is better with a good meal in the belly. We will have a nice meal, and Caterina will see we are happy family, good people, yes?” Cami was amazed. It hardly seemed the woman had taken a breath! She’d just come in like a steam roller. She’d given Quin and Jaden a look and a little shake of the head because she could see the worry in Sofia’s eyes. Yes , she was a mother too .
Sofia and Attilio both had big smiles as they reached down to the babies. Sofia exclaimed , “Una bella bambina.” She was turning to ask Cami which child it was when Samuel put his hands on either side of her face and said , “Hug, kiss , kiss.” Sofia and Attilio both gave the babies hugs and kisses. Th en Sofia reached into her large, beautiful, leather bag, while holding the baby and handed him a biscotti. Then she handed another to his sister
Even giant vampires have to ‘play horsey’ to toddlers sometimes
Tripp was standing behind the sofa that Caterina was sitting on. He didn’t want to be co-opted into a ‘horsey’ like Abaven. Sofia slowly approached that part of the room, Cami walking beside her.
Vampires, shape shifters, fairies, dragons, prophecies, magical children, exasperating parents and hot heroes, bonus the heroine gets two heroes!
This book has mature content with includes menage amour and male/male love scenes, while written about in a sensitive way but is not for everyone
I particularly liked the way miss Leigh was able to describe the progressing relationship between Cat, Tripp and Orfeo in a sensitive and mature way showing the love growing love between the two men without resorting to overly explicit or gratuitous love scenes.
I gave this book a 4 star rating and look forward to the rest of the series.
The Chosen's War Series, is a continuation of the New Council, there will be another twelve books in this series, and then there will be a final twelve of the Chosen's Children. I look forward to bringing you all of their stories! Warning: MFM, MM, and hot shifter sex!
