Part One: Riley is perfectly comfortable being a single code jockey and watching movies at home in her sweats – she’s a fiercely independent woman, successful and intelligent, and she has no use for vapid conversations or relationships. Unless, of course, they are work-related. Being one of only two women at her computer security firm, she is chosen to work a job for a corporate client with some…special requirements. In order to not raise any suspicions regarding their security leak, Riley must masquerade as the CEO’s latest supermodel conquest, hanging on his arm at various functions as well as around the office, wearing slinky outfits and painfully high heels, and pretending she hasn’t a thought in her pretty head. All because the client insists. Riley is far out of her comfort zone on this case, and her maddening but handsome playboy client, constantly criticizing and controlling her looks, doesn’t make her job any easier. She can’t wait to get back to her movies and sweats, but CEO Dirk Kent seems to have other ideas. And what Dirk wants, he tends to get.
Part Two: Riley’s brutal attack remains as much a mystery as the security leak she’s been hired to trace – but her arrangement with Dirk is what has her feeling the most confused. At times he is remarkably sweet, but his tendency to try to control every aspect of her life is threatening to drive her mad. She knows he’s just trying to keep her safe, but she doesn’t need his domineering presence hovering over her. Especially since the relationship is marked with an expiration date. She keeps reminding herself that he’s not Mr. Right – he’s Mr. Right Now – but can she really believe herself? The best possible thing for both of them is for her to find the leak and finish the job quickly, before whatever they have gets too complicated to bear…no matter how much danger she has to put herself in to do so. The last thing Riley wants is heartbreak. But the last thing Dirk wants is to endanger her life. And if she can’t accept at least some of his help, she just might lose more than her independence.
Part Three: Riley’s new assignment is much simpler than her last one. She doesn’t have to pretend to be someone she isn’t, the problem is fairly simple, and her coworkers are far more tolerable. One in particular, an old college boyfriend, has been particularly welcoming. Everything seems to be going smoothly. So why can’t she get her previous job – or her previous client – out of her head? She’ll never be able to move on in her life, or her career, if she can’t leave Dirk and his security leak behind her. Riley is trying hard to forget the whole experience, from masquerading as a bimbo to her temporary indiscretion with an irresistible client to the terrible dangers she encountered…but what if the past isn’t ready to forget her in return?
