2-The Hot Flash Club Strikes Again:
In this charming sequel, Thayer continues the adventures of her characters from The Hot Flash Club [BKL N 15 03] while focusing on a new foursome. Faye, Shirley, Marilyn, and Alice are on the hunt to find single Faye a man, but they also find time to engineer the formation of a new group of friends, made up of four women who attend classes at Shirley's spa. Polly has just become a grandmother, but her daughter-in-law is keeping her away from the baby, and her ailing mother-in-law has suddenly decided that Polly is going to be her caretaker. Pregnant Carolyn is shocked when her father brings home a much-younger bride. Perky Beth has found her dream guy in Sonny, but his family clearly favors his ex-girlfriend, who was Sonny's high-school sweetheart and is still practically a member of the family. Julia is happily married to Tim, but his deceased first wife's mother is omnipresent and supercritical of Julia.
3-Hot Flash Holidays:
In her third book in the Hot Flash series, Thayer returns to the original group of characters featured in the first book, The Hot Flash Club (2003). Shirley, Faye, Alice, Marilyn, and Polly (the newest member of the club, from the second Hot Flash group) are gathering to discuss the upcoming holidays when the novel opens. The five are preparing to negotiate extended and fractured families, lovers, and, of course, those pesky hot flashes. Faye is looking forward to the arrival of her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchild, but a tumble derails her carefully laid-out plans. For Polly, who is excited about a visit from her son, his difficult wife, and their child, it's a fire that brings havoc. Marilyn is caught off guard when her devoted but impotent boyfriend proposes to her. Shirley is hoping for a proposal of her own when she spots a velvet box among her younger boyfriend's things. The fourth of Thayer's engaging Hot Flash Club novels finds the hormonally challenged pals enjoying a rent-free summer home in Nantucket. For Alice, Faye, Marilyn, Polly, and Shirley, the quaint island provides the haven they need to escape their stressful Boston lives. Alice is taking care of her beloved granddaughter as her son and his wife work themselves and their marriage into the ground. Faye's ardor for her lover may be cooling in the wake of his whiny demands for nursing care, while Nantucket's pastoral vistas provide her with a more satisfying outlet for her passion.
