The small town of Magnolia Springs undergoes a remarkable series of changes when a couple of out-of-towners move in and open a tea shop in a rundown building. Everyone in town is soon abuzz about the proprietors of the The Pandora Gift Shop as it becomes apparent that something is unsettling about Mr. and Mrs. Aliger.
As Perry Aliger sets out to introduce himself to his new neighbors bearing wonderful little gift boxes, tea and cookies, he makes some lasting impressions. While some of the townsfolk think he is wonderful; others—not so much since it seems that personal disasters either precede or follow him everywhere he goes. Even though he appears to be there in the nick of time to save the day, some of the more cynical people begin to believe that he might actually be causing the problems.
Angelica is much less visible out and about and although her striking beauty attracts all sorts of attention, her coldly calculating demeanor leaves the menfolk tongue-tied. She causes a stir everywhere she goes even though she seems more or less oblivious to their discomfiture as if she has some hidden agenda of her own.
A power company lineman and his elderly aunt; a police sergeant and his wife; a banker and his mother who happens to be the town funeral director; an embittered, alcoholic cat-ladyand her loud-mouthed redneck nephew; a beautiful insurance agent;. a number of otherwise mild-mannered, country-fried characters soon discover that their paths are inexplicably entwined with the new people in town.
Before long, some of them are quite convinced that Angelica and Perry are not what they seem at all, but perhaps up to something no good. The adventures commence to be curiouser and curioser as personal grudges, repressed emotions, personal failures and disappointments assert themselves in a variety of surprising conclusions and most of them somehow manage to blame Perry Aliger for their troubles. On the other hand, the more positive portion of the population are certain that their good fortunes are a direct result of their involvement with the Aligers.
Unaware of any real danger, Perry goes about his business until the real world comes crashing in on him in the form of a beat up pickup truck on a narrow bridge. His relationship with Angelica is deteriorating rapidly and he doesn't have a clue why things are not going his way. He's only trying to help…but help what? Himself? Mrs. Aliger? The townsfolk? Or something entirely unexpected?
