Overview: Bonnie J. Morris earned her BA in Jewish history from American University in 1983, the first graduate to complete AU's then-new minor in Women's Studies. After earning her Ph.D in women's history from Binghamton University (1990), she taught one of the first-ever graduate seminars on Jewish women's history at Harvard; served as global women's studies professor for the Semester At Sea program; then joined the women's studies faculty at both George Washington University (1994) and Georgetown (1996). She teaches Women and Western Civilization, Gender and Athletics, Women and War, and Introduction to Women's Studies. Each June she works as an Exam Leader for the College Board, scoring AP U.S. History exams. Each August she lives in a tent for two weeks, working at the Michigan Women's Music Festival, where she is coordinator of the Community Center crew. She also serves as an occasional guest lecturer/staff for Olivia Cruises, offering women's history talks aboard their voyages.

1. Sappho's Bar and Grill
Lonely women's history professor Hannah Stern walks into her local lesbian bar one winter night, seeking love advice from her old friend and bartender, Isabel. "Women's history will be my date this year!" Hannah raises her glass in sarcastic tribute, resigned to life as a scholar, but her remark sets in motion a wild, sexy-smart romp through time. Much to her astonishment, Hannah soon finds herself meeting up with the actual figures and foremothers she assigns her college students to learn about. She's caught in a time-travel vortex: one that seemingly emanates from Sappho's Bar and Grill. What are these figures of the past trying to tell Hannah? What wisdom do they share? Given the opportunity to ask her feminist role models questions about their lives and viewpoints, what will Hannah say? More importantly, will she find romance with women who loved women in the past? Or will she take a chance on her old friend Isabel, whose drinks and potions seem to hold the secret of time travel itself?

Feminist scholar Hannah Stern finds herself working at the Library of Congress, assigned to catalogue a donation of rare lesbian books. But it’s more than a one-year job in Washington: it’s a mission handed to her by Sappho, The Overhead Herself. When a series of desperate, haunted phone calls from the ghosts of lesbian writers directs her to rescue even more at-risk books, Hannah begins a journey into the love affair between banned writers and newly-out readers. Will hearing others’ fond memories of lesbian books from the 1920s and 1970s help Hannah save their legacy for future generations? Or will Isabel, Hannah’s partner and the mystical proprietor of Sappho’s Bar and Grill, have to summon her magic to save the entire bar membership?
