Plus, I quickly learn that there's more than just my fear of what lies ahead conspiring to tear us apart...
Can I trust him? Can we make it work despite the odds? Or will the forces at work succeed at destroying our bond?
The Beast's Human Gift - When I’m given as tribute to a band of alien marauders in the hopes that they’ll spare the settlement, I resolve to do whatever it takes to survive and escape. Playing damsel in distress is totally not my style. These mofos will chip a tooth on me if they take a bite! There’s just one problem: that golden-eyed killer who threw me over his shoulder thinks I’m his fated mate, and he’s not about to let me out of his clutches.
Jaxaten is fanged, scarred, seven feet tall, and convinced that I’m the bride that he prayed for to whatever strange gods rule this planet. And although I find it flattering that he keeps threatening to kill anyone who lays a finger on me, I’ve sworn never to marry. Too bad for him.
Still, I’m dragged deep into the wilderness of this alien planet, where all manner of predator stalks the unwary. It’s an arrangement of survival, that’s all it is. But I quickly discover another side of him as we travel together. He starts to show me who he really is, and it throws everything into question. Plus, I learn that survival isn’t guaranteed and that Jaxaten’s ferocity has made him more enemies than he has slain.
He needs me too. So, am I really doing this out of survival, or because the beast’s heart isn’t as feral or hollow as I thought?
