I have one assistant and two other trained bodyguards. That is the make up of my team, and I’ve made sure each member is an ex-Marine.
I know how to work with fellow Marines and they know how I like to run things. I can’t say my business is exactly booming right now, but we’re getting there now. So when Jeff, my assistant, tells me about the security detail job that has come up for a local wedding, I’m more than happy to hear about it.
Effie sits in the booth across from me and I can’t stop myself from staring. I know I really should focus on what she’s saying, but she has a body that is calling out to be touched. Curves in the right places...

And that is when it hits me. My ring. The wedding. He thinks I’m the bride-to-be.
Good. This is exactly the defense I need to stay away from him.
This is good. This is exactly what I need. Shane walking away from me makes this whole thing easier to handle.
From the moment we set eyes on each other it was like a bomb had exploded. I know he thinks I’m Kelly; that it’s my wedding, not hers.
There is tension between us. I can feel the energy. He is mad at me because he’s trying to control his desire for me.

...how tough it can be to adjust to life outside the military; but we have all been through it. And I am one of the lucky ones to have others I can rely on.
Especially since my relationship with Carol ended.
I had never pegged her for a cheater, but I guess it’s easy to completely misinterpret people....until my friend James, who was back from deployment, told me he saw Carol on a date with someone else in the city.
Right now, all I want to do is enjoy my new freedom and get a dog.
She tells me her name. It’s Emily.
From the moment I first saw her, I knew she was the perfect person to look after all these dogs in the shelter. I would adopt all of them if I could, just to make her happy.

It’s nearly time to take the dogs out for a walk. We have a dedicated walking and running track at the back of the shelter. I’m walking on clouds as I go outside to prepare for the walking session.
It is a part of my job to do everything to increase their chances of being re-homed and I love it. It makes me feel fulfilled in a way nothing else can.
Dagger is just a dog, of course, but the more time I spend with him at the shelter, the more I’m beginning to feel like he’s actually my best friend.
Dagger and I are locked in a tight embrace when I hear that strong masculine voice.
I have all his information on the piece of paper in front of me. His name is Tristan Mill, and he is the sexiest man I have met in person. Ever.

A lot of the guys from my old Company have found girlfriends since our return to the civil world, but I’m not one of them.
I have no intention of joining that herd, either. I have always enjoyed my single life and I’m not complaining. Even though I can see how happy Tristan and Emily are together, I know that life is not for me. I wouldn’t know the first thing about commitment.
This big fluffy mountain dog headed in my direction. He is bounding towards me...
The woman who was chasing him comes up to us now
When she finally looks up and our eyes meet, I know I have to have her.
She is the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.

Am I dreaming? Because it sure feels like I am.
Who is this handsome hunk crouching down in front of me? Not only is he absolutely drop-dead gorgeous, but he also managed to stop Doughnut from slipping away. When he finally starts standing up again, my stomach does a complete flip.
I’m afraid I won’t be able to say a word to him. It’s like he has just walked out of my dreams. A model of my perfect man.
“This is James. We were in high school together. He disappeared for a while when he joined the Marines. Now he’s back,” Ralph explains.
