And where a boy whose heart does not beat begins to transform into something monstrous. Something terrifying. And only his love for his childhood best friend may keep his soul intact.
All Sho Asawa has ever wanted was to confess his love to Naoki Okubo, and run away from Marrow together. But as a strange barrier descends on the town, as creatures of myth and legend whisper in the dark...

Phase Two: Fear builds in Marrow as the strange transformations spread among the townsfolk; as beasts speak in strange voices, and street lamps come alive with glaring, wild eyes. But it's nothing to the fear inside Naoki as Sho succumbs to his transformation - and disappears into an impenetrable chrysalis with the words I love you, Naoki on his lips.
An old woman becomes a great statue, overlooking the town. A young boy follows a watchful stranger. A mother becomes a creature of smoke, as ethereal boats of light sail across Marrow's horizon and the moon advances through another phase.

The frogs sing a prophetic warning. A mother searches for her lost son. And a great skeleton looms over the town, its great and booming steps cracking the earth.
Outside, the world moves on. The light still comes. Police gather on the boundary between Marrow and reality, and news stations around the globe ask: what is happening, in this isolated California town?
No one knows. No one has any answers. But the moon advances on. Unstoppable. Inexorable. Relentless.
A baleful eye - yet who is the one watching?
Phase Four: The voice of a dead man promises silver bullets won't kill anything. Naoki dreams deep and forbidden things of Sho, in a secret place where lips meet lips. The rabbit in the moon begs for a bedtime story. The dark man waits, and wonders what he's done, and if it can be undone in time to save the ones who stay the same, even as Marrow continues to change.
While Sho watches from afar.
And searches for the one true path that will wake him from his deathless dream, and deliver him back into Naoki's arms.
Phase Five: The moon advances to full. A strange visitor haunts Naoki, and the sound of a ringing phone echoes down the hallways of his memory.
The cocoon cracks.
Sho awakens.
Yet is what emerges truly Sho...
