Waltham Series (1-2) by Dinah Dean
Requirements: .ePUB, .MOBI/.AZW reader, 2.7MB | Retail
Overview: Dinah is known mainly for the historical romances she wrote in the 1980s for the Mills & Boon Masquerade Historical Romance imprint. Historical romances then, as now, included a wide range of both writing quality and historical accuracy. Dinah Dean is at the top end of the scale for both. While she does not confine herself to any one period or place, most of her books are set during the early 19th century, in either Waltham Abbey, Essex, England, or in Russia. As a resident of Waltham Abbey and the secretary of the Waltham Abbey Historical Society Dinah Dean is well informed about the history of the town and she uses this in her books which are set between 1060 and 1808. She is also knowledgeable about Russia and, as well as her romances about the early 19th century, she set one book there in the late 11th century.

#1 - Daughter of the Sunset Isles
England, 1066
Gytha is the devout but determined daughter of the rightful king of England, until her world is turned upside down by the death of her father, King Harold. Fleeing from being forced into a nunnery, and determined to keep the spirit of her father alive by bearing sons to continue his line, Gytha seeks refuge with her uncle King Svein of Denmark.
But with the King's health deteriorating, Gytha must marry. Her only offer is from a Prince living far to the east. So she prays and sets off on a perilous sea voyage into the unknown, and toward her future...
#2 - Silk and Stone
Sometimes the miracles you were praying for were there all along...
Italy, 1136
Norman-born Elys de Wix fills her time with embroidery on the long pilgrimage to Rome to pray for healing of brother's injury. She never thought much of it, until their new traveling companion, Saxon master-mason Aylwin, admires her skill. While not as handsome and diverting as Sir Fulk, when Elys is dreading entering a nunnery, it is Aylwin who whispers a solution: she could make a living from her embroidery.
On her return to England, Elys finds her brother Matthew living in Waltham, a little church known for its miracles. She has always known her calling was to be a mother, not a nun, but with her dowry already paid to the nuns, Elys will need a miracle of her own to find a husband, or someone who believes in her needlework, to keep her out of the cloister walls.
