While neither Lennie nor David knows what to make of it, they’re soon drawn into ominous circumstances. Lennie needs safe harbor; David knows where to go. There could be a bit of bad blood between him and the Apollyons, but The Shuck has always housed people who are more than they seem. With luck, there he’ll start to find answers to his deepest questions — and Lennie will find the family they’ve never had.
2.5. The Kraken and The Canary: Paul Apollyon sees flashes of the future, yet he can’t predict Alastair Gow bursting into his public house and desperately asking for a place to hide.
Alastair wants to use the cellar, to be precise: a totally normal request from a man who looks like a dashing pirate out of a storybook.
But perhaps there isn’t anything to say to a charming stranger asking to hide in your cellar but yes—and with that, Paul is drawn into sweet intrigue. Alastair is helping a local girl run away from an arranged marriage and he’s clearly got his own secrets.
Despite Paul’s powers—and the definite attraction between him and Alastair—there’s really no knowing exactly what will happen. Still, he’s willing to take some chances, especially when his heart says they matter.
