Requirements: EPUB/MOBI Reader, 708 Kb
Overview: “A mysterious elite warrior is captured by the inhabitants of Polar City Three. Resigned to die as a prisoner, her life changes forever.”
500 years from now, a remnant of humanity struggles to survive in Polar Cities, built near the Arctic Circle after devastating climate changes. They are challenged by the Raiders, descendants of genetically enhanced humans, also known as the Jia Ting. The Jia Ting’s recon and military missions have one common goal: to leave their underground city of Reso (former Montreal) behind and claim the Polar Cities for themselves.
Kama is one of those Raiders—in fact, she is one of their Elite. Formerly a “Chosen”—that is, a consort to one of the leaders—she is repurposed by the Elders as a recon agent and scout when she approaches the unfavorable age of 30. While on a mission, she is captured by one of the Polar Cities.
Stripped of her power, Kama decides she has nothing to lose, and exchanges intel on the Raiders for her freedom. She feels like a traitor, but as she begins to adjust to her new life in the City and make friends, she comes to realize that she feels more valued than she ever did as a member of the Jia Ting. The Raiders, whose name is Mandarin for “Family”, simply used her for her superior genetic history. She will no longer be their tool…
This newfound resolve will serve her well in the struggle to come, when the City’s denizens and the Raiders battle for control of the City itself…
Raiders is a novel about a post-apocalyptic future, but it is also a unique story of growth and self-discovery. It is my second novel; my first, Polar City Dreaming, begins the theme of polar cities in the wake of climate change, and was published by Sunbury Press, with an introduction by Danny Bloom.
