Overview: "Writing has been the one consistency in my life. I started writing poetry at age six, short stories by age ten, and my first (poor attempt at a) novel at 19. Writing is both therapy and an obsession with me, and sometimes I think it's the only thing that keeps me sane.
A lot of time my ideas start with a single question. For example, Blood Legacy started when I began musing, if vampires did exist, what would they really be like? Who (or what) are the real creatures behind this myth? What type of anatomy would they have? What makes them strong? What makes them immortal? These are all questions that I wanted to answer.
The story itself kept circulating in my brain for several years before I finally just sat down and wrote it all out. By that time, it was incredibly complex. The creatures in Blood Legacy have an entire society based on power and social relationships (kind of a "who's doing who" in the vampire world). But these creatures aren't vampires, who to me always seemed a little simplistic." Kerri Hawkins

Blood Legacy: The Story of Ryan
In the past, a young peasant boy grows to manhood in a violent, bloodthirsty world. In the present, a mysterious woman is found in the morgue and slowly begins returning to life.
Susan Ryerson, a genetic researcher, treats the mortally injured woman and against her will is drawn into Ryan’s world. She learns of Victor, the man who gave Ryan immortality, and learns of Ryan’s terrible revenge against those who killed her parents. The story weaves through six centuries, from the battle of Agincourt to the corruption and perversity of the Borgia Pope’s court.
Susan soon learns of the Others, the creatures who are also Ryan’s Kind, and only then begins to understand the dark and erotic world that Ryan lives in. Against her better judgment, Susan Ryerson continues to seek the secrets of Ryan’s immortality for the sake of science.
And she begins to suspect that Ryan has not told her everything…

Ryan is reunited with her mentor only to discover that Victor has fallen ill, an impossibility for One who is both invulnerable and immortal. Ryan calls upon her human companion, Dr. Susan Ryerson, to continue her examination of their unique anatomies, hoping that Susan can discover what is wrong with her liege.
Simultaneously, word comes that the Grand Council has been reconvened. The ancient ones who sit upon the Council call upon Ryan to conduct a millennial purge, a controlled hunt in which the least desirable of their Kind are culled. Ryan is brought face-to-face with the oldest of her Kind, and face-to-face with seduction on an unimagined level. The story of Ryan Alexander continues in this third installment of the Blood Legacy series. Although superficially resembling a vampire, Ryan possesses all of the mythical creature’s abilities and none of its weaknesses. Surrounded by ancient beings who seek to dominate her by force or seduction, she has become the most powerful of her Kind. Due to Victor’s continued illness, she is compelled by the Old Ones to take her place as sovereign.
Ryan assumes command of the hierarchy, but is increasingly troubled by dark dreams, images that for once do not belong to any of her Kind. With growing concern, Ryan realizes the dreams might belong to one preceding her father’s birth.
