The Singer's Crown series by Elaine Isaak (#1-#2)
Requirements: Epub reader/Mobi reader, 1.85 Mb
Overview: I was born in California in the same year that Tolkein died (which I didn't find out until much later). I've lived in Illinois, Massachusetts, and now New Hampshire, with some wonderful summers in Colorado, and a few visits to Seattle thrown in the mix. After feeling like a misfit through Middle School, and finding a group of peers as geeky as myself in High School, I went off to Rhode Island School of Design with some vague notion of working for Jim Henson or Hollywood making creatures. Finding the program there to be too limiting for my needs, I withdrew and came home to seek my fortune. I finished my first book and promptly had it rejected by Del Rey. I started my second book, which remains unfinished to this day. I was primarily a poet, and self-published a couple of chapbooks, "Doubles or Metaphors" and "The Intimate Toes of Rome". I sold my first short story for the same amount of money as my first paid poem. Took about four years to write my third book, in fits and starts. I had my daughter in 2001 and feared I would never have time to write again. In response, I wrote faster. Productivity fell off a bit after the second child arrived in 2007. Nonetheless, I have just finished my thirteenth novel.
Genre: Fantasy

1. The Singer's Crown
Prince Kattanan duRhys was in direct line to the throne—until his royal family was cruelly slaughtered by a usurping uncle who spared the life of his "favorite nephew" but left the boy mutilated and incapable of claiming his birthright.Nearly a decade on, Kattanan is a harmless wanderer—a coveted prize—serving many different masters. But now the singer's simple life is threatened by chaos and dark wizardry, by his impossible secret love for the betrothed Princess Melisande . . . and by an obligation of the blood that forces Kattanan to pursue vengeance and a crown he's not certain he wants.

2. The Eunuch's Heir
Prince Wolfram of Lochalyn can't possibly live up to the reputation of his father, the Blessed Rhys, so why bother to try? Until a series of self-started catastrophes plunges him into the midst of the growing refugee population. They claim to be fleeing a war, and only Wolfram sees the danger that lurks in their mysterious ways. But his love for an exotic stranger, and his concern for the princess who pursues him collide with a more terrible struggle, in which his kingdom may fall and his very Goddess be brought to Her knees. Discredited by his past and disdained by his own mother, Wolfram must find the truth of his birth, and fight to make amends for all that he's done—or be seduced by the darkness of distant power.
