Will Steemjammer has just escaped from the dungeon of his family’s arch-nemeses, the Rasmussens, but now the conflict’s only getting started. He’s learned that the Rasmussens are closing in on a dangerous piece of technology. Unless he beats them to it, they will gain the power to take over Beverkenverlt – the steam-powered world that he comes from.

His family is overjoyed at his miraculous return, but he worries that he’ll have to pay a steep price for the lies he told to survive. Steemjammers don’t tell falsehoods and believe that their ability to see deeper truth depends on being as honest as possible. He fears his innate talents may be at risk, and he has no idea what he can do to save them.

With a fleet of fast airships, deadly steam-powered robots, and a virtual army of secret agents in and around New Amsterdam, the Rasmussens seem to have the upper hand. Will suspects there’s more to the concept of deeper truth, and unless he can unravel its mystery, all is lost.
