The River of Dancing Gods (1984)
by Jack L. Chalker
Life had not been kind to Joe and Marge. Now, according to the stranger who met them on a road that wasn't there, they were due to die in nineteen minutes, eighteen seconds. But the ferryboat that waited to take them across the Sea of Dreams could bring them to a new and perhaps better life.
There lay a world where fairies still danced by moonlight and sorcery became real. Joe could become a mighty-thewed barbarian warrior. Marge could be beautiful and find her magical self.
And it was even as Throckmorton P. Ruddygore, the strange wizard, had promised. But there was a great deal more, as they soon learned.
This was a world where Hell still strove to win its ancient war and demon princes sent men into battles of dark magic. It was a world where Joe and Marge must somehow help prevent the coming of Armageddon.
Demons of the Dancing Gods (1984)
While the initial battle for Husaquahr has been won, dark forces are gathering to the south. One of the Council of Thirteen has to be the Dark Baron and the Baron is plotting with the Demon Prince to shatter the fragile peace and bring Armageddon to the magic world beyond the Sea of Dreams.
But before the Dark Baron and the Demon Prince can put their plans into action, they need to deal with Throckmorton P. Ruddygore, master sorcerer who suspects that all is not as it should be. Once again Ruddygore must call on the help of the two humans, Joe and Marge, and together they must face the evil forces that threaten Husaquahr with annihilation.
Vengeance of the Dancing Gods (1985)
A Few Alterations
Throckmorton P. Ruddygore, master wizard, had troubles--again!
Ruddygore had defeated the Dark Baron and exiled him from the magical realm of Husaquahr to Earth. But he hadn't counted on the Baron's using an earthly computer to create even more effective spells.
Of course, the Baron couldn't use those spells. But the forces of Hell soon sent him a second-rank wizard who could--and together they worked a scam so that Ruddygore couldn't cross the Sea of Dreams to deal with the Baron directly. Now the Baron was developing a scheme that would surely result in Armageddon before its time.
Once again Marge the fairy and Joe the barbarian were called upon to do the dirty work. They had to return to their home world and stop the Baron--if they could . . .
And that would be only the beginning of their assignment!
Songs of the Dancing Gods (1990)
Joe has reunited with his son, who has accompanied Joe to Husaquahr. But their joy at being united is cut short by news that the Dark Baron has escaped once again and is gathering a force in the North to capture and enslave them all.
Can Joe and Tiana (and Irving) make another stand for their new world or is the Dark Baron finally going to vanquish Husaquahr?
Horrors of the Dancing Gods (1994)
In this final volume of the Dancing Gods series, Ruddygore and his heroes must face an ancient evil seeping forth from the Sea of Dreams. Long dormant evil is rising to challenge reality as we know it and it will destroy Earth and the magical world of Husaguahr if left to its own devices.
The Rules require the Great McGuffin to challenge and stop the evil forces, but McGuffini is lost in Hell and Ruddygore must, once again, depend on the skills Marge and Joe (and Joe's estranged son, Irving).
