Justice Keepers Saga by R.S. Penney (#1-3,5-6,9-10)

Overview: I grew up in Southern Ontario, and I've been writing fiction since I was sixteen. When I first started out, I planned on writing epic fantasy in the tradition of J.R.R. Tolkien or Robert Jordan, but I quickly discovered that I don't have the patience to thrive in that genre. I've never been all that fond of describing long treks through the countryside. So I took the characters I love and brought them into a modern setting. I've always been an advocate of diversity in fiction. I remember noting, at the age of sixteen, that one big problem in epic fantasy is the fact that all the characters are white. So I try to create a cast populated by people of all genders, ethnicities and orientations. If you like genre bending stuff like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, you'll love my books.

1. Symbiosis
Ten thousand years ago, a powerful alien race called the Overseers took primitive humans and scattered them across the galaxy. Now, some of those humans have found their way home.
Anna Lenai is a young Justice Keeper on a mission to recover an alien life form that has been brought to Earth against its will. While pursuing the felon into uncharted regions of space, she stumbles across Earth and finds the lost homeworld of her ancestors.
Together with Jack Hunter, a young man with dreams of doing something meaningful with his life, she will have to adapt to a strange environment and uncover a conspiracy that could shake the society to its foundations.
2. Friction
Three years have passed since Jack Hunter changed the course of our planet's history.
He thought he was joining a noble order of knights who protected humankind, but when a terrorist threatens to fracture the delicate alliance between Earth and Leyria, Jack finds himself neck-deep in a world of subtlety and scandal. Distinguishing friend from foe will be the most difficult test he has ever faced.
Three people are dead, each killed with advanced alien technology. Jack and Harry must team up to find the perpetrator before he sets off a panic that could destroy the fragile peace between planets. Meanwhile, Anna investigates a smuggling ring on one of the outer colonies, trying to find out who's been funneling deadly alien weapons to Earth.
3. Entanglement
Strange sensor readings in the outer solar system force Anna Lenai and Jack Hunter to investigate a military installation where soldiers work to develop the ultimate weapon... One that kills with a thought.
Meanwhile, Jena Morane - the newly-minted director of a hodgepodge team of misfits - struggles to expose the treachery of Grecken Slade. The secrets she uncovers could lead to war between Leyria and its aggressive, space-faring neighbours.
5. Evolution
Something is lurking on the edges of known space.
On Earth, the disgraced Justice Keeper Grecken Slade conducts a campaign of terror in a desperate bid to gain control of the Key, a mysterious piece of Overseer technology. Jena Morane leads a rag-tag band of resistance fighters to protect innocent civilians from Slade's wrath. Meanwhile, Jack Hunter and Harry Carlson search for the three ciphers that will grant them access to the Key and the secrets buried therein. After ten thousand years, the Overseers have returned...and the galaxy will never be the same again.
6. Dirty Mirror
Battered, broken and bruised, the Justice Keepers limp away from their greatest defeat yet.
Melissa Carlson was thrilled when she received her admission letter into the Justice Keeper training program. Now, she has begun a new life on Leyria, an idyllic planet that has overcome poverty and prejudice. But something dark is simmering beneath the surface, as a terrorist group threatens to bring back the social unrest that the Leyrian people fought so hard to vanquish. Melissa's father, Harry Carlson, is having trouble adapting to life in a society that makes him feel obsolete. Is there room for a grizzled old cop in a world of robots and star ships? Meanwhile, Jack Hunter begins an investigation to root out traitors among the Justice Keepers once and for all.
9. Fragile Hope
As the SuperGates open, civilizations once separated by unimaginable distances can now interact for the first time. And of course, what follows is tension.
In a desperate attempt to preserve the fragile peace, Antaur calls a summit to discuss a potential alliance with Leyria. Jack Hunter and Anna Lenai are assigned to protect the delegation from mercenaries loyal to Admiral Telixa Ethran.
Melissa Carlson investigates a growing fascist movement on Leyria, hoping that her world can change course before it’s too late. Meanwhile, her father, Harry Carlson, is tested like he has never been tested before.
10. Cry Havoc
Simmering tensions boil over as the Ragnosians attack the colony world of Alios, beginning a war with Leyria.
Jack, Anna and Melissa must defend a planet full of civilians from a hostile invasion force. Meanwhile, Slade’s origins are revealed, as he hatches his plan to assassinate the Prime Council. A plan that will irrevocably change the political landscape of many worlds. The Overseers will soon move their final pieces into position... And the galaxy will never be the same again.
