2. Resistance
The Tissan Empire lies in ruins, humanity wiped out. The few survivors who hang on in remote corners pose no threat to the Elves who estimate that it will be several generations before humans recover as a species, if they ever do.
Four such survivors hold the key to human destiny: Father Michael, ex-arena champion, has fled overseas with the last heir of Tissan. Forging new alliances they plan to return. Owen Derle, Eagle Rider, back in his mountain home vows revenge for fallen comrades. Thief Cade is now a slave. The Dwarves ignored orders to kill.
Tens of thousands of human slaves now work the Dwarven mines. The halfbreed, Captain Sabin Fillion, hates the Elves more than most, but finds himself declared an Elven hero and taken to the very heart of Elven politics. It’s a prime position and a dangerous one.

Alex Janaway concludes his compelling fantasy tale of a war waged against humankind. Eagle Rider, Owen Derle, leads a scattered remnant of the once great TISSAN EMPIRE.
After a punishing war choreographed by the Elves of the Heartlands, humankind has all but disappeared. With his tiny band of survivors, Owen thirsts for vengeance, but has nothing with which to face the Elves if they return to finish the job.Human prisoners of war were enslaved in the Dwarven mines, but led by ex-thief and chancer Cade, they staged a mass escape. Not everyone made it, but several thousand reached the shores of the Brevis Sea where they are building a new life for themselves. When Owen finds this huge settlement of survivors, that includes a military capability, he is ecstatic. Here is the army he needs to counter a second Elven attack.
However, Cade’s people do not share his desire for vengeance. They are war weary and disinclined to fight. Owen thinks himself out of options, but then a miracle happens. The divine Emperor of Tissan returns. The redoubtable Father Michael is with him, along with a band of Owen’s fellow Eagle Riders (friends he had thought long dead) and best of all, a nation of fierce warriors.
Now Owen will see the vengeance he has wanted for so long. Father Michael will see the divine Emperor back in his rightful place. Everything is set to be put back just as it should be. But at the point of seeing their desperately-held desires fulfilled, why does everything suddenly feel so wrong?
