The Magic Series by Ann Macela (books 2 - 4)
Requirements: ePub Reader, 1.2 MB.
Overview: I have been blessed with a number of careers: public school and university teacher (three degrees in history); writer of history (the kind bristling with footnotes); sales, marketing and PR person writing everything from ads to annual reports; consultant and computer manual writer; and now romance author. A native Texan, I spent most of my life on the Gulf Coast until my husband’s and my business took us first to Minneapolis and then to the Chicago area. It didn’t take me long to learn how to survive in The Frozen North--just wear my entire wardrobe at one time. All of this, some travels here and abroad, and my computer-and-accounting savvy husband have given me inspiration and details for my stories.
In Chicagoland, I finally had the time to do what I have always wanted to: write fiction. I write both contemporary and contemporary paranormal stories. I hope my readers enjoy my magic practitioners. We all need a little magic in our lives.
Genre: Fiction » Sci-Fi/Fantasy
2. Do You Believe in Magic? (2007)
What if you could cast a spell to help you do your everyday job? But . . . that didn’t help when an ancient force brought you and your soul mate together, and you weren’t ready?
Magic practitioners in the modern world have supernatural skills to do their everyday jobs. They also have a legendary force, the imperative, that brings each to his or her soul mate, who will be the love of their lives. The mates are also guaranteed to recognize each other almost immediately. Or so the stories go.
Consultant Clay Morgan, literally a computer wizard, is going after a hacker for one of his clients. When he meets Francie Stevens, he’s immediately attracted, but thinks because she’s not a practitioner, she can’t be his soul mate. Right?
Not exactly.
Francie works for Clay’s client, and the hacker plaguing the company turns out to be the boyfriend of her best friend. She’s had terrible experiences with men in the past, so she’s determined to avoid Clay. They must work together to foil the hacker, however, and the attraction between the two of them is a constant source of worry for her.
Clay realizes quickly that she is his soul mate, and he’s not about to let her get away. First, he must explain magic, get her to agree that it exists, he can wield it, and they’re soul mates who belong together.
3. Your Magic Or Mine? (2008)
What if you could cast a spell to help you do your everyday job? But . . . an argument developed on the correct way to cast that spell? Or even worse, what if an ancient force brought you and your soul mate together, but you want nothing to do with each other?
How do you cast a magic spell? By the numbers and a strict equation? Or intuitively by feel and ancient methods? Is casting a science or an art?
Theoretical mathematician Marcus Forscher and botanist Gloriana Morgan come before audiences of magic practitioners to debate those questions and find everyone has an opinion, often totally opposite to each other. The debates become contentious, even dangerous, as practitioners choose sides.
As if that’s not enough for the two speakers, the soul-mate imperative decides they must be together forever, no matter what. Marcus and Gloriana, however, discover they are polar opposites in almost every aspect of their lives. How can they be soul mates? Gloriana questions the imperative’s decision. Marcus announces he won’t be anyone’s mate, no matter what.
While practitioners choose sides between the traditionalists and the futurists and the two debaters try to bridge the magic gap, Marcus and Gloriana use every method they can to put off the inevitable of becoming mates. The imperative is both sneaky and powerful, and the two soul mates may have met their match. So, whose magic will prevail? His or hers--or the imperative’s?
4. Wild Magic (2009)
What if you could cast a spell to help you do your everyday job? But . . . what if that job included casting fireballs and lightning bolts and destroying evil magic items? And your soul mate turns out to be a “wild talent” with abilities neither of you dreamed of? And you’re up against the immensely horrible Cataclysm Stone?
Within the world of magic practitioners exist a group called Defenders and Swords. Their purpose: to find and destroy items of evil magic.
Irenee Sabel is a Sword, new to her blade and anxious to prove herself. On her first mission to recover a powerful crystal of ancient evil--The Cataclysm Stone--from its practitioner users, she encounters DEA Agent Jim Tylan. Part of a law-enforcement task force but also for personal reasons, Jim is after the same people for drugs and weapons trafficking.
When Jim and Irenee come together, they find that each is more than appears on the surface. Irenee is surprised to discover that Jim is a “wild talent,” in whom magic abilities spontaneously occur. Jim is astonished to realize that he can cast spells and Irenee and her team can actually destroy evil magic items.
The biggest revelation of all concerns both Jim and Irenee. They are, in fact, ready or not, soul mates, and the soul-mate imperative is lurking, determined to bring them together.
The villains have other plans for them, ones that will test Irenee and Jim’s new found magic powers--and their new found love.
