2. The Wayward Prince- Few things have gone as planned since Emethius and Malrich set out to find a cure for the Blackheart. The gods have dispatched a shadowy figure known as the Gray Prophet to keep Leta from exposing the truth. Leta now faces a stark choice: reaffirm her loyalty to the gods, or finish the rebellion her brother started.
3. The Shadow Behind the Throne - The servants of the Shadow are in motion. The Cul are amassing a grand army in the west, while spies afflicted with the Blackheart have infiltrated every part of Merridian society. War between the gods is coming. But even in such dire times, hope remains.
Emethius Lunen has been given the cure for the Blackheart by the outcast sorceress Lillian. But by accepting the cure, Emethius has made himself an enemy of the gods. Now Emethius is being hunted, and getting the cure to Prince Meriatis is far from guaranteed.
Back in Mayal, Leta Benisor has exposed the Gray Prophet’s conspiracy to overthrow the throne, but that does not mean Leta and her family are safe. New rumors about her deceased brother continue to surface. And when the King of Tremel dies under mysterious circumstances, Leta discovers that the gods are not done meddling in mortal affairs.
Relief arrives from an unexpected source. Emethius suddenly reenters Leta’s life asking for a favor. Leta is happy to help an old friend, but she’ll soon discover that Emethius’s request is anything but simple. In fact, it could cost her more than she could ever imagine – her family, her throne, her empire, and maybe even her life.
