Valis is on his way to free his father from the enemy compound, but it seems like everything is working against him.
The team sent to eliminate the last Anchor of Qos needs his help. Tavros falls ill after an accident, and if he doesn’t get help quickly he’s going to die. And the constant blizzards mean they are moving so slowly Valis is afraid they may be too late to save anyone.
With so much at stake—lives, family, his heart—one wrong move may cost Valis a price he’s not willing to pay.
His army needs him. His husband needs him more. Valis can’t afford to fail either. The race to save his family is on.
9. Incursion: Loyalty and War 3 - It has all come down to this…
The final battles are upon him. Every decision, every step Valis has taken has led him to this moment. All the heartache, pain, and training have driven him halfway across the continent to rescue his father and the final god jar.
Valis and his friends rush toward their destiny, bound together in their quest. But avoiding dangers on their journey taxes Valis’s magical abilities and stamina, forcing him to continue draining everything he can from their enemies. And as they reach their destination, Valis’s worries about his reserves only grow.
The priests in the enemy monastery are more powerful than any Valis has dealt with before. They are even able to separate him from his husband. Their Sovereign Priest, Kaphir, is an enigma, and learning his secrets leaves Valis with more questions than answers. The only thing that is certain is that if Valis fails now, the entire world will pay an unthinkable price.
9.5 Solstice - The final battle is won, but the war still wages within.
Between nightmares from the battle against the Sovereign Priest of Qos to preparing for the winter solstice, Tavros is beside himself and trying to keep from worrying his husband, Valis. And then he learns that Valis has never celebrated Solstice. That gives him a worthy distraction to latch onto so he can function.
When Tavros starts plotting a surprise, their child friend, Aenali, gives him the diversion he needs. She spirits Valis away so they can escort her parents to the monastery for her brother Jedai’s wedding to Maphias.
While Valis is gone and the Aesriphos decorate the monastery, Tavros suffers. His nightmares won’t let him sleep. The anxiety overwhelms him. And above all, he wants his husband back safe.
No, above all, he wants Valis’s first Solstice to be special. But the last time he and his friends had surprised Valis, it had nearly caused him a panic attack. Will his Solstice surprise cause Valis more anxiety?
Solstice is mostly a fluffy, Christmassy read while also dealing with what these characters call War Trauma. PTSD is serious, and I did my best to treat it respectfully.
