1. Ice Crown - The competition could save her life…
But only if she wins.
Talise can manipulate the elements with ease; water, air, earth, and fire all bend to her will. As a citizen of the Storm—a crime-laden land where death is the only constant—her only chance for a better life is to become Master Shaper.
A competition for the position takes place at the end of her training years. If she wins, she would live in the palace, work for the emperor, and escape her inevitable death in the Storm. But she’s not the only one with a chance to win.
Aaden is another talented student. As a citizen of the Crown, he was born with unlimited privilege and resources. When someone from the Crown wants to win, they do. End of story. And his shaping is unlike anything Talise has ever seen.
Complicating matters, Talise’s loved one in the Storm gives her reason to abandon the competition altogether, forcing her to make an impossible choice.
Torn between duty and freedom, she must learn that clinging to the past, might destroy her future.
2. Wind Crown - The title of Master Shaper isn’t given, it’s earned. Let the trials begin.
The competition has arrived. Talise is the clear winner before it even starts. But Aaden has a much deeper desire to win than she ever realized. When he sabotages her demonstration, they are both punished.
Because of their talent, they are given a chance to earn the title of Master Shaper. But they must prove their honor and skill through a series of trials. In some areas, Talise excels. In others, she is woefully unprepared.
The emperor puts great value on wielding a sword and Talise has exactly none of the skill she needs. Of course, Aaden is a natural and easily impresses the emperor. Despite her best efforts to improve, the emperor seems increasingly disappointed in her abilities.
The emperor has threatened her with life in the dungeons before. If she doesn’t pass the trials, she can only guess what lengths he’ll go to in order to keep her out of the way.
At every turn, Aaden seems to be the only one who can help her. But she fears that trusting him could lead to far worse consequences… maybe even death.
3. Dust Crown - The trials are over. It’s time for the real fight to begin.
Talise is thrust into her role as Master Shaper in the most dangerous way possible. With the enemy knocking on the gates of the palace, she must use her shaping to keep them away.
But even after the battle, the emperor continues to be unhappy with her progress. The soldiers seem to share his disdain, and they fight against her leadership at every turn.
With the deadline of the masquerade ball fast approaching, Talise must decide whose approval matters most: the emperor’s or the soldiers’.
Despite her decision, one thing is certain. She must prove her potential… before the emperor gets rid of her for good.
5. River Gate - The people of Kamdaria are angry.
The empire is full of unrest. The aristocratic citizens of the Crown are angry at the emperor for lying about their enemy. The middle-class citizens of the Gate are angry at the state of their once great empire. And the poor, desperate citizens of the Storm are beginning to awake after years of oppression.
If Talise doesn't gain back their loyalty soon, it might be lost forever.
6. Smoke Gate - A mentor she never expected. A piece of herself she can't leave behind. This journey will teach her more than she wants to know.
Talise knows little of what the future will hold. When a mysterious guardian insists on teaching her the history of her empire, everything will change. Matters become worse when the problems in her personal life escalate.
With a relentless enemy hot on her heels, failure is not an option. Can she prove her honor? Will it be in time?
8. Ember Gate - Even with great power at Talise’s fingertips, this rescue might still be impossible.
As she and her friends head toward enemy territory, new obstacles meet them at every turn. Her army is running out of supplies. The nearby citizens won’t help if they’re already working for the enemy. Even worse, Talise doesn’t even have a map of the base she needs to infiltrate.
In desperation, she turns to the man who has the power to give them everything they need. Unfortunately, that man is the emperor, who also has the power to imprison her once it’s all over.
But Talise is determined to do whatever must be done. With the life of her best friend’s brother on the line, she’ll either rescue the prisoners… or die trying.
10. Air Storm - To win the war, Talise needs help.
After improving life in the Storm, the citizens would probably jump at the chance to join Talise against her enemies.
But their lives are far from perfect. Food is still scarce and skirmishes between cities still happen weekly. When a storm wreaks havoc on the land, many citizens are left with a horrible illness.
Talise’s only hope is with the amulet. She must use extreme caution during each training both because of the power it wields and because of the people she trains with.
Nothing goes as planned.
But with the war getting worse each day, Talise is determined to win. If she can’t build a new army with citizens from the Storm… she’ll use the amulet.
No matter what the cost.
11. Earth Storm - With an impossible task before her, Talise’s strength might not endure.
The barriers between citizens are the last thing standing in the way of gathering for the final battle. Talise vows to destroy the problem, but it’s more difficult than she expected.
She draws on a new, unexpected power. It leaves her weak and desperate for breath. In her weakened state, she sees that even without her direct influence, things are running smoothly.
Her attention turns to the one she loves. But even he seems intent on making things difficult. At a meeting to prepare for the final battle, lines are drawn, and a choice must be made.
She’ll have to accept her duty, or Kamdaria will be forever ruled by revenge.
12. Fire Storm - The final battle has begun.
Her army is under attack, Talise barely has the strength to stand.
To win the war, she and her army must imprison the emperor and take his crown.
But with no healer available, the goal looks more impossible by the hour. The emperor's army is strong and desperate to squash the rebellion. When Talise gets separated from her friends, things only become more dire. For the first time, she has to accept that she might not survive.
But if Talise dies, Kamdaria will be lost forever.
