1. Verge of Darkness
They thought the soul eaters were a myth from a long-forgotten past. Ramblings of a tavern owner who'd sampled too much of his own wares. They were wrong.
Horrific death stalks Petralis. The Gualich soul eaters gather at the portal between worlds, while their demonic servants run amok.
Single father and tavern owner Casca, a man better suited to his pastimes of poring over ancient manuscripts and smoking the finest "hagash," is cast in the unlikely role of saviour. All seems lost, but then, three mighty warriors are drawn into the maelstrom. Pagan, a wanderer from the furthest corner of the world, seeking redemption for a gruesome act of vengeance committed in his youth.
In the mountains to the north, one-eyed giant axeman, Moon, a man of notoriously bad disposition, journeys south, desperately seeking a cure for a growth in his skull. In the ancient kingdom of Chenghuan, ice-cold swordswoman Liang, looking for new purpose in her life, boards a ship for Petralis. The threads of fate knot, but will an unlikely alliance be enough to save the land from a new age of darkness as the Gualich and their minions gather?
2. The King's Banquet
A wise man would grab a king’s largesse with both hands when offered, for the next day, he might demand your head on a whim.
Soul eaters stalk the land, leaving a trail of desolation and horror. With his armies slaughtered, their souls drank like fine wine, the king in desperation puts out a call for warriors of renown.
After losing his wife and son to the abominations, Belash takes up his father's old axe, Ausak Demon Bane, and answers the king's call.
The soul eaters are vanquished, Belash and his companions lauded as heroes and a banquet is held in their honour. Merriment and celebration hold sway in the great hall of Crag Halbrosin, but the gratitude of kings is a fickle thing, particularly with wine flowing in abundance and good sense abandoned.
As the night draws to a close, will blood and death and the ring of clashing weapons hold sway, or will all depart to their beds flushed with wine and bellies pleasantly full?
3. Siege
Before all's done, many thousands will die, carrion birds will glut their fill, dark magics will be unleashed and a young man will stare into the eyes of madness
The ancient kingdom of Chenghuan has been at peace for hundreds of years. Foreign merchants flock to the kingdom eager to earn piles of gold. But tensions seethe beneath the surface as ruthless, ambitious men plot, their rallying cry a hatred of foreigners.
Meanwhile, chaffing at the injustice of their harsh existence at the edge of the great Kovra-Sa desert, an army of 400,000 blood-crazed Kovari tribesmen lay siege to the mighty fortress of Huchao guarding Chenghuan’s southern border.
Aeneas, a young man on a journey of self-discovery in a land far from his own, is drawn into the turmoil. With sudden violent death hovering like a dark shadow, he will need deep wells of courage and all his newly learnt fighting skills to survive.
Back in Petralis, traumatized by dreadful nightmares of the soul-searing struggle against the Gualich six years earlier, Casca embarks on a desperate quest to rescue his son from Chenghuan.
Dreadful carnage continues unabated at Huchao, while a scheming sorcerer plotting with malign design, gets set to unleash hell. Besieged from without and within, with madness wearing the crown, Chenghuan totters on the edge of anarchy. Will Casca succeed in rescuing his son? Will the fortress at Huchao hold, or will the vengeful Kovari tear down its mighty walls and sweep through Chenghuan like a tidal wave?
