Global warming opens the Northwest Passage near the Russian north coast in the Arctic for ship transportation in the Summer. But when he arrives at the US Navy base in Tokyo on his new assignment, he quickly finds himself at the center of political intrigue, military posturing, and even a spy world, where the weather data in the Arctic has become critical information in the new cold war. Anti-submarine warfare in the Arctic can be tricky and deadly with all the ice cover on the sea surface. With new high tech facilities, the US and Russia have strengthened their military capabilities in the Arctic for competition of resources and powers.
