Seasonal Quartet series by Kendal M Lyon (#1 & Novella)

Overview: Fantasy fiction has been the crutch I lean on in times of extreme stress in my life. Escaping into an unrealistic world where their problems are not my problems acts like a balm. When the stress gets really bad I have even been known to start and finish ever one of Tamora Pierce’s novels. It doesn’t seem to take very long…therefore that is the fiction I want to write. It is the type of fiction that takes the tension from my shoulders and helps me smell the roses.

1. Flora
Kidnapped along with her brothers, Flora is dragged kicking and screaming into a medieval country’s politics that are drenched with magic and intrigue in which she knows nothing about. She desperately tries to escape from the castle alive as decisions for a war against a powerful magical race are being plotted, while she is used as a pawn to bring out others secrets. All she wants is to have a happy life with her family, but she learns the hard way as her stubbornness nearly gets them all killed in a game that may tear her family apart. A sadistic leader who is willing to do anything for his kingdom’s success and a steamy ambassador from the countries sworn enemy, dance around Flora as she tries to navigate her way around the dangers of the royal court and into freedom, hoping to have her family intact by the end of it.
She froze as she felt the chilling touch of metal along her skin as the knife turned, the flat edge now pressing along her throat. Swiftly followed by the feeling of a bristled cheek along hers as her eyes stared forward. She could feel her heart trembling as the soldiers busted into the room, quickly overwhelming her brothers. She was unsure if they had called out as she heard nothing but the beat of her own heart, but the last sight she saw of Dawson was him being hauled to the ground, his red hair disappearing from the window.
She pulled her eyes as far as she could without pressing the knife farther into her skin to where Perry was, his dark skin helping him blend into the night had him barely noticeable. Though his eyes were wide and his bow was trained on her, specifically on the man behind her.
Her view of the street was limited, as she leaned back into the man, away from the knife. She held her breath as she tried to turn her eyes to see if her brothers could get away. Her hope dwindled as sounds of battle came up from the streets below. The screaming of the people of the flower district raising up above all of it as they caught sight of so many drawn swords.
Determined Folk: Novella
A spear covered in blood from a man she barely remembers. A stranger from a distant land staring at her over the fire.
