The surviving Gnomes and a new crop of recruits find themselves as test subjects for the DSR’s new deployment concept, on the trail of a FASA VIP, and the targets of terrorists and zombies alike. Dyson’s fiancé is stranded halfway across the country, Addison must cope with radical changes in his life-long struggle, Chip must confront the fact that reputation demands performance, Brick meets his hero, and Bear is discovering there is more to the world than he ever imagined.
FASA has not forgotten them, Doctor Davenport especially, and the world crisis has only gotten worse. The zombies refuse to perform consistently, weapons and equipment are a constant concern, and nothing seems to work out the way our heroes intend.
Dealing with leftovers from the Cold War, murderous office politics, annoying allies, capable enemies, protesters, and reality TV crews, the new Yard Gnomes must fight their way across half of North America with only half a plan and a great deal of heart.

The YGAT Corporation is back, up to strength (finally) and hustling to make an honest, if blood-soaked, dollar in the wake of a zombie outbreak. Facing the threat of zombie-like infected, terrorists, criminals, and ambitious Navy officers, the Gnomes scrounge for anything useful and try to stay one step ahead of the game. Taking place two months after Rolling Hunger, Floating Hunger takes the reader from the steaming rain forests of Belize, to the freezing backwoods of Missouri, and on to the cold swamps of the Texas Gulf Coast. Marv, JD, Brick, Chip, and the rest of the crew struggle with life's difficulties and the ebb and flow of a war for survival, while on the other side of the battlefront Doctor Davenport plots and plans.
