1. King Tides Curse
A thousand years ago, King Canute drew a line in the sand, turned back the World Flood, slammed closed the Flood Gates, and saved humanity from the Deep realm. Canute left behind the Knights of Noble Metal, to keep humanity safe. Canute, however, did not plan a good recruitment strategy. Volunteers are now needed.
Gale Knott is an eighteen-year-old go-getter, building his resume for medical school. Gale is ripped from a great surf at Bondi and recruited into the ranks of the fracturesmiths. Gale is tasked with travelling the realms, carrying on Canute’s work, fixing the breaks in reality. Given a hammer, some nails, a pager that won’t stop beeping, and a dog eared textbook, he is told to crack on with it.
Yet his shift is not an easy one. Under stress, his family heritage begins to wake, the curse of Deep magic. Gale is tempted by the power to command the oceans, to become a Trench-walker. Tides stir in the Deep, an ocean abyss filled with monsters. The Rust Knight hunts him, looking for the keys to the nine Flood Gates. Gale’s parents, long ago vanished, seem to be shaping his future from the past. Never mind just passing his exams.
His allies? A siren who gets him into more trouble than its worth. A meat-pie connoisseur, armoured in trackies, thongs and a flannie. A battle-maiden who insists that activewear is combat-ready, and a professor who just wanted to flog his new textbook. They are not the Knights of Noble Metal. But maybe...just maybe... they can stop the King Tides Curse.
