The Helmsman Saga by Bill Baldwin 1-7
Requirements: ePUB, MOBI Reader, 5.71MB
Overview: This series began in 1985 but was later reprinted in "Director's Cut Special Editions" by Timberwolf Press.
Several books of the original Helmsman saga, The Siege, The Defenders and The Defiance in particular, appear to reproduce (sometimes word for word, sometimes paraphrasing) large sections of a WWII autobiography titled The Big Show (written by Pierre Clostermann, published 1948, translated into English by Oliver Berthoud (copyright 1951 by Random House, first printing, Time/Life Book series: Wings of War: The Big Show). The Defenders pages 79–83 (Warner Books paperback, 1992) resemble in form, chronological order and paraphrase almost the complete chapter titled "Radar At Dawn" from The Big Show.[citation needed]
Baldwin's work contains allusions to other science fiction works. For example, Galactic Convoy mentions a planet named Throon (the capital world in the Star Kings books). Also, an attack against a space fort at the end of The Mercenaries contains several allusions to the attack on the Death Star.

The Helmsman Military Science-Fiction novel chronicles the adventures of StarSailor and extraordinary Helmsman Wilf Brim during an epoch of discord and outright war among various star-nations within a galaxy that could be a far-future version of the one in which we live.
Galactic Convoy Assigned to I.F.S. Defiant, first of a new warship class, Brim finds himself at the critical port of Atalanta on the planet Hador-Haelic, putting him in the thick of the action when the whole concept of space warfare changes.
The Trophy Third in a series of seven novels about the adventures of StarSailor and expert Helmsman Wilf Brim during an epoch of discord and outright war among various star-nations--within a galaxy that could be a far-future version of the one in which we live.
The novel begins just as Brim--once a fast-rising First Lieutenant in the Imperial Fleet--has been thrown out the service during a post-war reduction in force (RIF), along with thousands of other warriors by a Imperial Government that all-too-easily forgets how much it relied on them only a short time previously. The change devastates Brim; like so many other young men, from humble beginnings, he bases much of his self-worth on his success in his occupation. For a short while, he hangs on piloting worn-out third-rate spaceliners, but when that operation fails, Brim has nowhere to turn. As a last resort, he works passage to on one of the grand liners as a baggage-handler to the City of Atalanta on the planet Hador-Haelic where, eventually, old friends involve him in the great Mitchell Trophy astroplane races, and he ends up piloting for the Imperial Starflight Society.
The Mercenaries As the ravaged postwar Imperial Fleet stands helpless, nearby worlds fall to the League of Dark Stars. Commanding a squadron of Starfuries, Wilf Brim sets course to save the star kingdom of Fluvanna. If he fails, the Empire is doomed.
The Defenders The fifth installment of the popular Helmsman series from the author of The Mercenaries. Immersed in a desperate battle to save the capital of the Galactic Empire from formidable hyperspace invaders, Wilf Brim rallies his beleaguered Imperial Starfuries and leads them in a suicidal attack against the League of Dark Stars.
The Siege The sixth installment of the thrilling, strong-selling Helmsman space opera series. Tyrant Triannic's League of Dark Stars invades the Sodeskayan Worlds, where Rear Admiral Wilf Brim's Bear allies are desperately unprepared to fight. Worst of all, Brim himself is trapped in a hellish galactic gravity storm.
The Defiance Admiral Wolf Brim's new assignment to secure the space lanes between Hador-Haelic and the Pentad asteroids of Gontor will enable the Empire to launch Operation Spark, a massive invasion to free Occupied Fluvanna, thus ensuring the Empire's remaining source of faster-than-light travel fuel.
