We've got the stuff made out of dreams in this little slice of Hell on Earth. We've also got the stuff made out of nightmares.
My name is Sin Montero--hellbeast mercenary, professional liar, and your guide.
Supernaturals are free to be who they are in the Shade. That's the point of its existence--just not for me. I've spent my whole life lying about what I am, until it all comes crashing down on me with a single bite. Turns out, my blood can't tell lies, not to a vampire.
Damian Reed is achingly beautiful the way a lion is breathtaking--right until he rips your throat out. He claims my baby brother is in trouble, and if I don't help him find what he's looking for, he's going to turn me in to the authorities.
Now that's a big problem for me. You see, if the Sacri Guild caught wind of what I truly am, they would kill me without hesitation. And if I do what Damian Reed asks, there's a good chance I'll die in the process.
So many great options, right?
But here's a little secret: I'm not as helpless as I let people think. I've got a few tricks up my sleeve, and a crazy familiar who may or may not really be a squirrel. My brother's life is on the line so I'll take my chances with the vampire. Let's just hope I survive him with my head--and my heart--intact.
2. Stolen Magic - The New York Shade is home to all kinds of supernaturals. It is a safe haven for all of us and it makes no exceptions.
Until I did something to piss it off and now it doesn't like me. Bad smells at every turn, empty bags of food on my face, and you can forget all about shortcuts. I don't even know what I did wrong, but that's about to become the least of my problems.
When a hellbeast mercenary like me asks for my help, I can't refuse. All I have to do is help him kill off a few maneaters--but I get much more than I bargained for.
The next thing I know, the Uprising is after me again, and I'm racing to find a forgotten planet that's not on any maps.
That's not even the end of it. Damian Reed is back, and he demands I tell him what I have that the Uprising wants. After four months of not hearing from him, I want nothing to do with him. But all alone, I have no chance against his crazy ex girlfriend.
Accepting his help means going right back to where we started, but if I don't, I won't be able to help my new friend. This time, though, things between us just might end up worse than before.
3. Immortal Magic - The New York Shade is completely invisible to humans, because humans can't see magic. That's how it was supposed to be. But when a powerful spell is unleashed outside of the Shade, nobody knows where it came from or who made it. Nobody except Damian Reed. I'll admit that using my Talent on one of my best friends might not have been one of my smarter decisions, but it all goes to hell when the same people who spelled the humans almost kill her. Now, if I don't find what they took, the chances that my best friend goes to jail for life and I die, increase by the second. Unfortunately for me, the only person who can help me is Damian.
Working with him always ends up in a disaster but Malin's freedom is on the line this time. I'll do what it takes to make sure the Guild never finds out about what we did. But the more time I spend with Damian, the easier it gets to convince myself that we could make it work. I just hope I can make sure that Malin doesn't go to jail first, before it all comes crashing down on me again.
