America’s occasional flashes of the future are more than Dr. Wiley could have imagined. Cooper Lloyd’s mission is specific: return the inventor and his Construct to DC—willingly or by force. 1890. New Atlanta is dominated by the keepers of the past. Precognition is a dubious manifestation in humans; in Constructs, nonexistent—until now. America and Dr. Wiley struggle to understand the phenomenon of Echoes. Her world expands to welcome a few friendships with people and non-people. As America’s abilities emerge, the danger to her group escalates. Everyone has an opinion about her fate, unaware that America can choose her destiny. She and her friends navigate the unchartered world of humans and Constructs. Wiley cautions them, “Seeing what others do not could doom anyone, even a saint.”
