Chronicles of Madarre by Stuart J. Whitmore (#1-2)
Requirements: .ePUB reader, 1.1 MB
Overview: Born and raised in the shadow of more than one volcano, and growing up surrounded by militarily-valuable targets during the Cold War, Stuart Whitmore was one misfortune away from sudden death. What better way to escape thoughts of impending doom (or, more likely, boredom from watching too many TV reruns) than writing a novel? His first was written in 9th and 10th grade, and before he graduated from high school he completed the first draft of his second full-length novel.
Genre: Fiction > Sci-Fi/Fantasy

1. The Ambitions of Kreltahk
The kingdom is crumbling. Rumors fly about kurakvin raids. The short, strong, and bloodthirsty kurakvin haven't been seen in the kingdom since the last war with them, long ago. The king won't acknowledge the rumors. Nobody can show proof, not even his own wizards, although his trust in the wizards is fading fast. Amid the chaos, Kreltahk laughs. He knows an opportunity when he sees one. He knows the kurakvin have returned. And he knows how to use them to serve his goals. Kreltahk's goals are simple: Rule the land and everyone in it. Showing mercy is optional. Few will pay attention to a young boy from a remote fishing village. Few will be prepared for the surprise that is coming.
2. The Wanderings of Joramm
How can a young wizard find his way in life without guidance? Joramm's troubles did not end after Kreltahk's defeat at Riyahm. The older wizards who fought and died by his side left him with tremendous power, but they had no time to share the knowledge and wisdom he would need to use it effectively. Joramm seeks answers as he wanders alone in the ruined kingdom. He seeks hope for his future. Most of all, he seeks peace. All of these things evade him. With rumors flying that the king died in Kreltahk's final attack on the kingdom, local lords see an opportunity for conquest. Lord Jilarke is eager to make Konag the new seat of power. Unlike the king and queen in Madarre, who had shown their distrust in wizards even before Kreltahk fell in battle, Lord Jilarke welcomes the use of magic to crush his enemies and become the new king. As the threat of new war rises, Joramm must decide his path. He can flee and possibly never find the answers he seeks. Or he can stay, fight to protect the kingdom, and possibly never find the peace he seeks. Once again, the fate of the kingdom may rest in the hands of a boy from a remote fishing village.
