Overview: Commander Brenda Anderson was dissatisfied with her job. She didn’t know if she would ever get used to not flying her beloved space fighter. When she was offered the job commanding Avalon’s state-of-the-art space station, Horizon, she was going to turn the job down, until her mentor, Admiral Richards, had essentially ordered her to take the job. He had bluntly told her that she would be committing career suicide if she didn’t accept the posting.
So, she acquiesced and took the damned job. Now, some five years later she still missed flying her fighter. She knew she was a damned good fighter pilot. However, she had less confidence in her abilities as a space station commander. She yearned for the good old days when life was simple. Get your fighter in space and blow stuff up.
Even though Brenda had known intellectually that commanding a space station would not be an action-packed job, she had still taken the job. But hell’s fire! She didn’t know anything could be this boring. Brenda just yearned for something to break the mind-numbing monotony. Be careful what you wish for, Commander.
Little did Brenda know that before this day was over she would learn that alien species existed from not just one, but three different planets in their galactic neighborhood. Did I mention that one of the three species was hell-bent on destroying Avalon and everyone who lived there? How’s your monotony now, Commander?
