Tales of the Derry Plague by Ray Anselmo (1-3)
Requirements: epub/azw3/mobi reader, 906 KB
Overview: At heart, Ray is a storyteller - sometimes to the chagrin of people who wish he would shut up once in a while - and has found that writing is a socially acceptable way to be himself. He has survived his parents' divorce, his father's alcoholism, unemployment, Dilbertesque job situations, club foot, diverticulitis, cataracts, car accidents, not having his Asperger's officially diagnosed until he was 42, and living in Stockton since 1987. You won't scare him with any zombie-apocalypse nonsense, trust me.
Genre: Sci-Fi/Fantasy

1. Last - One Monday morning, Kelly Sweeney called in sick from work. A week later, her world was gone.
Kelly, a grocery store manager in tiny Sayler Beach, California, just thought she had a bad case of the flu. But when she recovered, she found everyone else in town dead, and days-old news reports of a rapidly spreading pandemic. There’s no way of telling if anyone else has survived anywhere. Soon the power and water go out, and she’s left to scrabble if she wants to survive.
She’s tough and practical, and she has an entire town’s resources at her disposal. But she’s also facing a long series of new challenges, from disposing of bodies to preserving food to dealing with packs of newly feral dogs. That’s in addition to keeping the balance in her own brain, which has been a lifelong struggle.
And as she works to find food, to stay clean, to stay sane, to figure out what happened, and finally to search the world outside her hometown, the question hangs over her head: of all of humanity, is she now the LAST?

2. SANTA CRUZ - Dr. Eric Bayo thought he’d just be finishing a summer class that August. Now, he’s expected to save a whole city.
Half-Irish half-Senegalese Dr. Bayo is teaching a class at the University of California, Santa Cruz when his students start dropping like flies – one falling dead right in front of him. A mysterious plague is spreading rapidly and wiping out most of humanity. With emergency services stretched beyond capacity and disappearing as well, there’s nowhere to go for assistance, no way to reach his family, no one whose lead he can follow.
In fact, the few survivors start looking to him for leadership! Eric doesn’t feel qualified to lead anyone, but … well, someone has to step up. Soon, he’s doing his best to fumble his way through crisis after crisis: where will food come from, how to keep the electricity and water flowing, what to do as the crowd of people depending on him grows, and grows, and grows. And not everyone likes what he’s doing or how he’s doing it – or is willing to go along.
As he seeks out help, puts people to work, feeds and houses them, and tries to build community out of chaos, all under the shadow of countless deaths, can Eric bring safety and civilization back to SANTA CRUZ?

3. WHAT NOW? - THE END OF THE WORLD IS JUST THE BEGINNING!
Alice McClintock only planned on going to school. In the midst of a pandemic, she’s finding she has a lot more to learn.
Alice was driving east to start her Ph.D. program at a prestigious university – until at a rest stop in Ohio, people start dropping dead all around her! Unable to summon help, and with the world rapidly closing down, she is forced to do the unthinkable: survive and keep going with no one else to rely on.
And someone relying on her. Because in an abandoned church sits Sean Mullen, three years old and with no one to turn to. Alice, a complete stranger, is his only hope – nobody else is around to take care of him. She has to find him – and herself – a safe place to live, food and shelter and all the necessities of life, while keeping her sanity and hopefully discovering community in a suddenly depopulated United States.
As Alice and Sean travel from small town to big city to the hallowed halls of the nation’s capital, looking for a home and for helpers in a brave new world, they have to be prepared for anything. And at each step, they find themselves asking, WHAT NOW?
