Alienable Rights - Arrested on a distant world. Charged with crimes you did not commit. Or especially if you did...
Who you gonna call?
Alienable Rights presents a new, stand-alone Star Lawyers novella. The fast-moving story--packed with romance, intrigue, galactic politics and courtroom clashes--unfolds five months after SL-6 Capital Murder.
Tyler Matthews and brother J.B. are busy setting up Star Lawyers Institute on Emily-4, the beautiful colony world with purple-puff clouds where the Terran Commonwealth bases its Naval Command Academy. Tyler and his Star Lawyers must defend a Cadet who’s wrongfully charged with sexual abuse of a fourteen-year-old minor. Except the "minor" is a fully developed member of a humanoid species that matures twice as fast as H-sapiens--physically, emotionally and intellectually.
The Cadet is the twenty-year-old son of Lycos Vera, who's the significant other of Tyler's Aunt Violet Matthews, the three-star admiral who commands the Naval Academy. Aunt Violet cannot intervene, even though evidence points to entrapment by aliens with ulterior motives. Careers may end.
A promising young officer faces twenty years hard labor on faraway, airless moons. And because the “minor” has fallen in love with Cadet Vera, she runs the risk of execution by her tribal society.
Hot Cargo - Capt. Strider Jackson is desperate.
He’s in the drunk tank on a distant world, nearly broke. Central Bank of Rahjen is threatening to repossess Strider’s sole means of livelihood, his medium cargo starship the Wiley Traveler.
Then Luxury Whitlock—stunning, red-haired Scottish Baroness—bails him out with a lucrative contract. Ferry a boatload of humanoid females across the galaxy to meet wealthy men on remote planets without good candidates for frontier wives.
Except the Baroness fails to mention bounty hunters dogging her steps to collect a huge price on her Celtic patootie.
And the "lucrative contract" requires avowed bachelor Strider Jackson to temporarily marry the husband-hunting passengers and establish their fertility before delivering these mail-order bride to their destination worlds.
Strider’s problem: “Should I dump this hot cargo and run? I need the Galactic Credits, or I lose my ship and can’t pay the crew. Where is my Gypsy heritage? I need a crystal ball, right now!”
