Overview: Rick Cook, pseudonym of James Richard Cook, is an author of both fiction and non-fiction on computer technology. He began publishing fiction with “Mortality” for the January 1987 issue of Analog Science Fiction/Science Fact; where most of his short fiction has appeared.
Cook is best-known for his fantasy fiction, primarily for the Wizard series of Technofantasy-tinged tales—beginning with Wizard’s Bane, published in 1989—which are set in a secondary world ideally arranged for its protagonist, computer nerd Clyde Zumwalt, who has been transported into the venue, to use his skills to transform society and defeat foes.
