Overview: Joseph Paul Martino (born July 16, 1931 in Warren, Ohio) is an American science fiction writer and science consultant.
He studied at Miami University and at Purdue University, where he received his master's degree. He then earned his PhD from Ohio State University. After graduating, he worked for the US Air Force at the Air Force Office of Scientific Research in Arlington, ultimately with the rank of colonel. After serving in the military, he worked as a researcher at the University of Dayton Research Institute, where he worked on issues of futurology, technology assessment, and research policy making. His textbook on Technological Forecasting for Decision Making has been reprinted several times, most recently in 1993.
In 1960 he published the science fiction story Pushbutton War and in the following decades a good dozen other stories attributed to hard SF. He was a member of First Fandom, the on-time editor of Scientifiction: The First Fandom Report, and a 2010 recipient of the First Fandom Hall of Fame Award.
