The Infinite Arena (1977) Anthology by Terry Carr (ed. Jim3692)
Requirements: ePUB reader, 0.25Mb
Overview: Seven science fiction stories about sports.
Our sports are constantly changing with the passage of time and advances in technology. Astroturf, metal tennis rackets, high-powered rifles and instant-reply devices are only a few of the innovations that have made great changes in various sports. Astronauts have played golf on the moon. New sports such as sky diving have gained great popularity. And what of the future?
One thing is certain: human beings will always like to play games. It’s as basic to our nature as curiosity, aggression, territoriality, or any of the other “primal urges” anthropologists like to tell us about. (Indeed, there’s an anthropological theory that all human knowledge started with the proto-hominids’ enjoyment of game-playing.)
Genre: Fiction » Sci-Fi/Fantasy
