Overview: H.G. Wells was born in 1866. He was a well-known novelist, historian and science writer. During his career, he wrote over a hundred books, short stories and essays.

He was a biologist by training. Wells was, during his time, an internationally acclaimed master of science fiction. He was one of the few writers who was able to describe trips in aeroplanes and submarines, at a time when people could only dream of such things. Time Machine, one of his best known science-fiction stories, is included in this collection.

He died in 1946. Tono-Bungay, written in 1909, remains his best-known work.
