The Mind-Melded series (#1-7) by Carol Buhler

Overview: I spent sixty years working with horses in between being a wife, a mom, and having different non-equine careers (had to pay for the horses) until finally I could devote my full-time attention to them. Raising, training, and competing on various breeds in multiple disciplines, I consider myself a jack of all horse venues, master of none.
I’ve traveled the US hauling a horse trailer with my one horse on the left side of the two-horse divider, the household furnishings on the right side, and the fishing boat tied to the top. My family moved to Texas from Colorado with my barrel horse and my son’s pinto pony in that same trailer and my daughter’s white Shetland poking her nose at the traffic through the stock racks of the pickup. And I’ve hauled a nine-horse trailer with living quarters over the mountains and across the plains or desert to wherever a horse show could be found.
Genre: Fiction > Sci-Fi/Fantasy

To Renew the Bond (#1)
Two mind-linked species, one side dying out. Will the human colonists help or will fear of the unknown cause them to attack?
Joedon’s rescue of his best friend from a colonist prison gets him charged with treason and threatened with execution by his own people. Appalled, he finally recognizes that his civilization is sliding toward extinction. Lacking the leadership he’d inherited but rejected, the Council has ignored drastic changes in their world. Determined to turn things around, he sets out to win back his people’s trust.
Can he convince them to seek colonist help to keep them from devastation?
To Enrich the Bond (#2)
Will a single pregnancy affect Joedon’s effort to reconnect with humans to save his people? If so, which pregnancy will it be, don or human?
A don’s kidnapping and attempted murder of the Royal Fem has shocked the Speakers’ Council into reconsidering their position against humans. But violence among the colonists still stirs on a broad scale as well as on individual levels, refueling Council fears.
As Joedon continues to advocate for a reconciliation to get help for their declining society, he and his friends face new obstacles. Then, two births and an astonishing new mental bond occur, throwing all deliberations into turmoil.
To Share the Bond (#3)
Does Lilliod and Caleb’s mind-meld indicate the demise of don, rise of humans to partner the reeth?
The reeth-human meld has shaken the Council to the core. Is it duplicable? Is the don continued importance to reeth resting on finding the solution to the birthrate decline? And what about the appearance of obviously mentally-powerful half-human, half-don twins? Within a single year, everything the Council has depended on for centuries has collapsed.
Joedon gains the Council’s permission to formally reveal reeth/don existence to Gareeth’s humans and Lillith devises a novel way to help non-melded don and reeth achieve happiness. But trouble still brews in secret, waiting for them to drop their vigilance.
To Defend the Bond (#4)
Some humans have accepted reeth and don presence as benign. Some don have accepted humans as helpful. Have they all?
Joedon has gained Council permission to formally reveal reeth/don existence to Gareeth’s humans. He and Lillith believe they’ve solved all problems in getting the three species to cooperate by eliminating the animosity of their most outspoken foes. Then, small troubles develop into a huge threat to everyone’s survival.
To Stretch the Bond #5)
Although reeth, don, and humans allied to defeat the attempted takeover by Remé Firth, life on Gareeth doesn’t settle into happy ever after.
Joedon and Lillith send representatives to several human city-states to ensure the sovereignty of Center through treaty agreements. Shouldn’t be dangerous, but who knows for sure?
Meanwhile, some don and reeth discover concepts from humans that threaten to turn Center traditions upside down.
To Augment the Bond (#6)
What else can disrupt Center life now that dealing with humans has become old news?
Or will life become Happily-Ever-After? Not hardly.
Two chance encounters introduce new elements to essential telecommunication between mind-mates. One makes them dizzily sick, the other could lead to their deaths.
To Explore the Bond (#7)
No one can decipher the ancient texts found on the East Continent. Lacking the patience of their elders, the youngsters decide to solve the problem.
Then, armed with new information, search teams return to encounter challenges from every direction and confront colossal destruction. Can Joedon and Lillith succeed in finding their roots?
