01 The Eagle and The Owl
The mighty Calidian Empire is teetering on the brink; whether it is the brink of downfall or the brink of unprecedented stability depends upon one man. This burden falls upon the reluctant young Duke Macien of Jorbus, who has the mantle of Dictator thrust upon him by the ill Emperor. He inherits a political mess, and at a dangerous time for those who sit on the throne. The Empire is in the midst of it’s largest conflict in history, and the open war with it’s rival Homitha has taken a toll on the lands and the people within it’s borders.
Enemies are everywhere, both outside and inside the gates. The controversial war has been put on hiatus, just when Calidia had started to get the upper hand. At home, assassins lurk in the shadows and political conspiracies are bubbling up from the cracks. The Empire is divided and a civil war now appears imminent. With faltering support and growing resentment, Macien may have to do some previously unthinkable things to keep Calidia from crumbling. Even if he does succeed in doing so, he still needs to keep the Empire from being seized by a tyrannical political foe who will take drastic measures to claim the throne he feels is his by right. Macien begins to understand that the right thing and the easy thing are rarely the same.
02 The Bull and The Sword
The war has started. Sides have been taken, lots have been cast. The future of the Calidian Empire and the very stability of the world hang in the balance. The odds are against Macien and his allies, as Silious and his forces have had time to prepare. The results of their preparation will be devastating; swift victory is anticipated. Macien will need to do whatever he can to keep it all together, and he may be the only one who is capable of doing just that.
In the capitol, Eventus and Flaccus are caught up even further in the deadly conspiracy that will rock the Empire to its core.
A young Dutrigian Commander will be in charge of a small force that stands between an ancient menacing foe and the annihilation of his people.
The Sentinel Torbock and his young partner, Jacean, are given a near impossible mission that may determine the fate of the war, and perhaps the entire Empire.
Guardsman Cometa has a score to settle and needs a chance at redemption.
Lieutenant Elknaut has to overcome some hurdles in order to become the military officer he feels he is destined to be.
The Empress must take an unprecedented role for a woman, and rise to the expectations her father always had for her.
Prophecies, both true and false, swirl in the air like a mist. When it all settles, things will never be the same…for better or worse.
