Overview: Ghazan is the young prince of a desert kingdom who discovers a new beauty within the harem. Xenia is without equal and Ghazan is determined that she will be his. Taking her from the harem one night, he is discovered and banished from the city by his father.
Heartbroken, Xenia attempts to end her life and falls gravely ill. Ghazan knows that the only way to revive her and regain the respect of his father is to kill the dragon Aisin and so he sets about his task immediately.
Meanwhile, Dost, a young warrior who dreams of avenging his father, arrives at the palace and waits to make his chance to kill the sultan. He is cheated of his revenge, however, by Dir-en-Shad, a sorcerer who assassinates the sultan and takes control of the kingdom with his fanatically religious followers.
Dost makes good his escape and by chance meets Ghazan and Xenia aboard a ship that is sailing for a distant land. Ghazan intends to raise an army that will reconquer his lost kingdom, but Dost has other ideas.
As the two part ways and Dost decides to travel back to Dir-en-Shad to join his cause, Ghazan learns that the lance of Ogedeyir is what is needed to gain the service of the mercenaries he needs.
In a world where dragons take sides in the conflicts of men, Ghazan and Dost will face off against one another in a titanic confrontation. But who will survive to rule?
