1. The Germanicus Mosaic (1999)
It's the 2nd century AD. Libertus, a freedman and pavement-maker, has a reputation for solving crime. When his influential patron asks for his help in a politically sensitive murder case, Libertus is in no position to refuse. When the main suspect is also found murdered, the truth seems elusive.

2. A Pattern of Blood (2000)
Freedman and pavement-maker Libertus feels nothing but dismay when he is asked by his patron to accompany him to Corinium to investigate a threat against a decurion, Quintus Ulpius.

3. Murder in the Forum (2001)
A mystery of Roman Britain, featuring the on-going sleuth, pavement-maker and freedman Libertus, who is resident in Glevum (Roman Gloucester), a city of rich Roman aristocrats, well-armed Roman soldiers and native and foreign freedmen and slaves. Once again Libertus is enmeshed in the murky politicking and scheming of wealthy Romans and the impact of their presence on the local and slave communities. And his own life will be endangered before he can bring the guilty parties to justice.

4. The Chariots of Calyx (2002)
Libertus is asked to investigate the brutal murder of Caius Monnius, Londinium's chief corn-officer, but his enquiries lead in different directions. Was it the keeper of the granaries? The sinister Calyx and Glaucus, managers of the best chariot team? Or Fortunatus, the lover of Caius' wife?

5. The Legatus Mystery (2003)
Preparations for the religious celebrations for the Emperor's birthday are brought to an abrupt halt when the murdered body of a visiting ambassador from Rome is discovered in the temple of the Imperial cult and once again Libertus is called upon to investigate.

6. The Ghosts of Glevum (2004)
When the guest of honour is found dead in the vomitorium, Libertus' patron Marcus Septimus is arrested. Then when Libertus is accused of being Marcus's accomplice, he is forced to go on the run. Hiding in a dark corner of the city, Libertus is soon in danger, and this time there's no one to help.

7. Enemies of the Empire (2005)
It's AD 188, and a tiresome three-day journey to the forested outskirts of the Empire is the last thing Libertus, freedman and pavement-maker, wants to make. Not only are there wolves and bears, but Celtic rebels may well regard the lone coach as fair game. But when Marcus Septimus asks Libertus to join him on official business, he knows he can't refuse his benevolent patron.

8. A Roman Ransom (2006)
For those who like their crime clad in a toga, this cunningly drawn series set in 2nd-century Roman Britain will satisfy indeed. Rich in intriguing and authentic historical detail, and featuring the investigative exploits of Libertus--former slave and amateur sleuth--this is ancient history with a murderous twist.

9. A Coin for the Ferryman (2007)
In Roman Britain, AD 189, every slave knows his lot in life depends solely on the morals - or lack of morals - of his master. Fortunately for one young Glevum slave, Junio, his owner, former slave turned pavement-maker Libertus, believes heartily in rewarding years of loyalty and service. Junio is to be granted his freedom in an elaborate ceremony at the Basilica Law Court. And what better moment than the manumission to announce the lad's engagement? But the young couple's happiness is threatened by a terrible omen: the gruesome discovery of a corpse, hastily concealed in a shallow grave. Who is it? And, more importantly, who will go to any lengths to cover up their heinous crime? Determined to solve the mystery before the impending nuptials, Junio joins his mentor Libertus in trying to piece together a truly masterful mosaic of murder...
