1.5 Fox in the Quarter
This is a short novella cast in the world of the Rue Darrow novels. It is not necessary to read it to follow the regular series. While Rue is hanging out with Nathan, her good friend and local werewolf, a little white fox enters his apartment. As a vampire, not much can get past Rue in the form of a nonhuman. She can see the fox just fine, but Nathan can't see or smell him. Kitsune, a Japanese fox spirit, wants Rue to help him locate a missing young woman. Rue's job seems simple enough, but there is more going on than the fox shares. People are coming after Rue and Nathan, people with power she has never seen. There is a new darkness in New Orleans, and it could mean the end of all human and nonhuman kind if Rue fails to stop it in time.

2. Wolf Ties
Someone has killed Nathan's roommate, alpha of the most prominent werewolf pack in New Orleans. The police are holding Nathan responsible, who was found on the scene covered in blood. With days remaining before the full moon, Nathan can't afford to be locked up among humans. On top of that, he's out of control with grief and rage. Rue will do anything to save the man she's come to care about, but she's running out of time. The humans can't learn his secret, and the pack can't find out the murderer might have been a shifter from a despised group. No matter how much her tracking abilities have improved, she can't find the killer. Desperate and out of options, Rue calls in a favor from the werewolves' other enemy. Surely, the wolves will forgive her for humiliation she serves them in the name of stopping a war.

3. Night Fever
Rue has a perfect plan for righting the wrong that has been done to fae, Orin and Pammie. All she has to do is break into the Meris Corporation, a facility warded to detect and kill any nonhuman. Good thing Rue’s a resourceful vampire with lots of confidence. After her daring venture, Rue’s met with a new challenge. Ghouls have been let loose in New Orleans, and they’re attacking humans as fast as Rue and werewolf cop Violet can save them. The humans are calling the resulting sickness night fever because it’s nothing they’ve ever seen before. Rue knows the truth. Anyone who gets the fever doesn’t just die--they are reborn as a ghoul.
When the danger hits too close to home, Rue gets help from an unexpected source. She puts one friend in danger, unintentionally betrays another, and then makes a mistake she can’t ever take back.
