The Border Part One: “He's our brother. Even if there's a serial killer operating in the area, you can't possibly suspect our own brother.”
At the heart of the Freeman family, there's a secret. Something dark and rotten, something must never get out. Most of the time, they manage to ignore that secret.
But not now.
Not when Ben Freeman comes home after nine years on the road, to a family that suspects him of involvement in a series of horrific murders. There's no proof that he's responsible, and the only evidence is circumstantial, but still... Ben's brother, sister and father all believe he's the killer.
Matters aren't helped by the fact that the murders always coincide with Ben's visits home. Dead bodies, usually women, are found with their hearts ripped out, and with mysterious patterned knife wounds. When Ben's latest visit coincides with yet another death, his family is finally forced to face the possibility that a violent, sadistic killer is in their midst.
The Border Part Two: “If you don't find him soon, there'll be another body. He's ready.”
On the surface, Bowley is a peaceful, quiet town. Beneath the surface, however, there's something dark and rotten.
With one dead body in the morgue already, Jane Freeman is starting to worry that she'll never find the killer. As her desperation mounts, she heads out of town for a meeting with the one person who might be able to offer some insight.
Meanwhile, her husband Jack is struggling to deal with his brother Ben's return to town. Ben has always known how to cause trouble, and his visits home always coincide with violence and death striking the community. Most people write that off as a coincidence, but Jack things something else is afoot.
The Border Part Three: “I want to go deeper. I want to go to the next level.”
With a killer still on the loose, Jane Freeman knows there could be another victim at any moment. Unfortunately, she doesn't have much help: her boss is losing her mind, her husband is snooping through her phone, and her subconscious mind has started to talk to her in the form of the dead girl.
Meanwhile, Ben Freeman has decided that the time has come to face his father and make him a surprising offer. First, though, they have to try to get past the events of a day fifteen years ago when Ben learned what his father really thought of him. Turning to his sister for help, he has no idea that she has started her own descent into a whole new kind of personal hell.
And beneath them all, buried under the town, the denizens of The Border continue their deadly party.
The Border Part Four: “I found a way back. You believe that, don't you? I had to crawl through the mire.”
With the police investigation moving slowly, Jane finds her attention drawn by another matter that threatens to turn her private life into a nightmare. Long-buried secrets threaten to reach the surface, leading her to a late-night meeting with someone she'd rather never see again.
Meanwhile, Jack is reunited with an old friend who warns him to trust his instincts when it comes to his brother. When another victim is found dead, Ben's involvement becomes all too clear, and Jack is finally forced to make a stand in order to protect the town from his brother's plans.
The Border Part Five: “Pile their bodies high.”
Heading out of town, Jane and Ben face some home truths. Ben is starting to face the truth about his reasons for returning to Bowley, and now he knows that he has to finish the job he started many years ago. Jane, meanwhile, has to accept the fact that her past can't stay buried forever.
Elsewhere in town, a funeral gives Katie cause to make a new friend, while Jack decides that it's time to do what the police can't. For one of Bowley's residents, however, the pressure is about to become too much, and the stag-headed man is ready to claim yet another victim.
The Border Part Six: “He was bad from birth, you know. He was always a bad seed.”
When Jane is called to a serious incident in the middle of town, she has no idea that her whole life is about to be torn apart. Finding Joe holed up in the bar with a hostage, she takes matters into her own hands and tries to deal with him, only to discover that his madness is driving him to commit horrific acts.
Meanwhile, Jack tries to prepare himself for the moment of truth, while Ben realizes that his family might never accept him. Beth receives a message that threatens to change everything, even as her husband endures a bizarre night out that begins with a high-stakes interview and ends with a raccoon attack.
The Border Part Seven: “If you knew what was really going on here, what was really hiding under the surface in Bowley, your heart would break .”
Beth has a plan to change her life forever, but first she has to meet a stranger at the diner. After teasing herself with the possibility for so long, she's finally on the verge of getting rid of Bob, but there's still one moral line she has to cross. Before she can face the reality of her situation, however, she learns some devastating news.
That same news, meanwhile, has also reached Ben. Shocked by a death so close to his heart, he realizes that the time has come to deal with the Border once and for all. Just when he's about to take matters into his own hands, however, his sister comes to him with another problem entirely, one that threatens to bring the entire family to its knees. Out in the wasteland beyond the edge of town, a very different tragedy is about to unfold.
The Border Part Eight: “I want to see my uncle again.”
As the sun sets on Bowley, two figures make their way toward the Border, determined to end the club's reign of misery. They know the task won't be easy, and that there might well be resistance. What they're not ready for, however, is the madness that always seems to be lurking one door away.
Revenge is in the air, and before the night is over several of Bowley's residents will be dead while others will have their lives changed forever. The stag-headed man is about to be unmasked, but not before claiming one final victim, and a girl will struggle for her life on a kitchen table. And many years later, one woman heads to a mysterious rendezvous, unaware that she's being followed.
