All Five Boat Novels by Bernard Cornwell
Requirements: ePub Reader, Mobi Reader, 5.1 MB
Overview: Cornwell's thriller series are modern mysteries, all with sailing themes. He is a traditional sailor and enjoys sailing his Cornish Crabber by the name of "Royalist." His thorough knowledge of sailing and popular skills with writing combine in great novels for the nautically obsessed, although he is best known for the acclaimed Richard Sharpe series, set during the Napoleonic Wars.
Bernard Cornwell was born in London in 1944 — a 'warbaby' whose father was a Canadian airman and mother in Britain's Women's Auxiliary Air Force. He met Judy, a visiting American, while working in Belfast for the BBC. Judy was unable to move to Britain for family reasons so Bernard went to the States. Bernard and Judy married in 1980, are still married and still live in the States.
Genre: Fiction > Mystery/Thriller

Wildtrack: Nick Sandman's spine was shattered by a bullet in the Falklands. He has no money and no prospects, only a dream of sailing far away from his troubles on his boat, Sycorax. But Sycorax is as crippled as he is, and to make her seaworthy again, Nick must strike a devil's bargain with egomaniacal TV star Tony Bannister. Signing on to the crew of Bannister's powerful ocean racer, Wildtrack, Nick is expected to help sail her to victory. But the despised celebrity has made some powerful enemies who will stop at nothing for revenge....
Crackdown: British ex-marine Nick Breakspear, who skippers charter boats out of the Bahamas, dreams of refurbishing a classic boat and sailing off with beautiful Ellen, ship cook and practicing celibate. On the verge of realizing his fantasy, he agrees to take the cokehead son and daughter of a U.S. senator on a cruise to kick their habits. The son forces a rendezvous at sea with vicious traficantes who sink the boat, kill a crew member and almost kill Nick and Ellen. Back on land Nick is persuaded by the senator, a presidential contender, to join a three-man raid against the heavily guarded island stronghold of the drug lords.
Stormchild: Cornwell's fourth seagoing adventure features boatyard owner and solo globe-circler Tim Blackburn, devastated when his wife is killed by an explosion in the English Channel. Tim has already lost his son, who was murdered by IRA terrorists, and his daughter, Nicole, has joined a band of eco-activists led by charismatic, slightly sinister Caspar von Rellsteb. Tim is convinced that von Rellsteb plans to have a brainwashed Nicole hand over her inheritance to his group, Genesis, and, after a period of mourning, he tracks von Rellsteb to Florida, where Genesis is disrupting a environmentalist convention. Tim meets Jackie Potten, a mousy young American reporter certain that Genesis is a fascistic group and a big story. Eventually Tim and Jackie team up to sail the steel-hulled sloop Stormchild to von Rellsteb's island base off the fierce Patagonian coast of Chile.
Scoundrel: Paul Shanahan, the owner of a yacht delivery business in Belgium, now lives a peaceful existence after a terrorist-active life. An old colleague's request for the secret transport of a large amount of gold is a welcome return to the fold - but it turns out to be a deadly business.
Sea Lord (aka Killer's Wake): John Rossendale, 28th Earl of Stowey, is a 30-ish semi-rebel who has escaped his nasty, impoverished family by bumming around the world in his sailboat Sunflower. He returns to England in time to receive a maternal death-bed curse and then, before he can get away again, is embroiled in a search for the ''Stowey Van Gogh.'' Stolen years ago (John was a suspect), the lost family heirloom is lusted after by a mega-rich tycoon. To provide for his only nice sibling, the retarded Georgina, Rossendale agrees to help find the Van Gogh, which is being held for ransom, and to give it to the tycoon. Rossendale also succumbs to the charms of the tycoon's step-daughter (herself a contessa) and thinks about settling down. But first there's a mystery to solve and perils to face, culminating in a foggy duel in dangerous Channel waters.
This is a splendid thriller of skullduggery and smuggling, politics and passion, in the Carribean waters, with a twentieth-century Sharpe at the helm.
